I wonder if all these bad reviews are from people who just can't be pleased. This place was fantastic!
I used the contact form on their website to, you know, contact them. I told them my budget and wish list (225/auto & manual focus, RAW file capture, IS, white balance settings, and a rechargeable battery) and got a response in under 48 hours. They said they had something for me.
I went in, was greeted by Terri, one of the owners and I gave her my wish list. Mark, the other owner, and respondent to my email, overheard our discussion and asked if I had been the one who emailed. I loved that he remembered.
He then grabbed the item he had in mind for me. He told me his asking price had been $275, but since I had mentioned in my email $225 was my max, he would give it to me for that. Awesome! No large, corporate store would ever do that!
Mark didn't like the strap that was in the box, so he went to the back and found a very nice neck strap that fit the camera. Additionally, I purchased an SD card. Again, Mark and Terri went above and beyond and gave me a $10 discount on that item.
I lost count of how many times they said, "if you have any trouble, just give us a call". And they didn't just mean with the basic functionality of the camera; they meant specific functionalities and general photography questions. It is great to know I can call them and a person will answer their phone!
Terri was very personable and talked to me about her 25 year experience shooting weddings while we waited for Mark to find a strap. She even gave me and the friend I was with Gary Camera pens. She made sure to point out that they write nicely (which they certainly do!)
It genuinely upsets me that such a great small business like Gary Camera could go out of business because of some bad online reviews. Please, at least give them a chance because I am confident that Mark and Terri will treat you with respect, courtesy, and as the human being you are!
In summary, the customer service was EXCELLENT, the prices were outstanding, the selection was good (considering I bought used, it is impressive they had what I was looking for) and I feel the upmost confidence in the...
Read moreI have spent some time at Gary Camera on several occasions, the only complaint I have is, I wish the owner or worker were a little more eager to approach me BUT it's really not a big deal. When I have a question, they answer quickly, knowledgeably and without hesitation. I havent purchased a frame here, but the lenses for my nikon and canon were both lenses I had no issues with and for cheaper than i have found online. Canon 28mm-90mm for under 60 bucks I bought just because of the low price. The store itself brings nostalgia, part camera shop part museum. Honestly most times even when the store workers dont talk to you it's kind of nice to just walk around and see everything without someone player 20 questions or making sure you dont touch or steal anything. Take into mind 2 things a) the photography scene has become bloated with people that do it specifically for social media. The amount of vloggers, youtuber, content creators and everything else has blown up so it's hard to take some people seriously. B) there are countless people that walk in and out this store, of them not too many people really buy much. The stuff he has is good, but I feel most people go there to look around and realize how expensive photography itself is and leave. Idk if I could have the patience to be cordial to everyone either. Gary Camera is a great place to go, I'm actually going there today to sell a frame and buy lenses for...
Read moreI've walked into Gary camera on three different occasions. The 1st time I went in looking for a camera lens for a digital camera I owned. No one seemed to be working in the store as I walked around for sometime before a voice from the back said they were busy! No big deal. I ended up waiting over fifteen minutes before the guy came out to ask me "what do you need!" not hello, not how can I assist you, what do I need! The price they gave me was over the MSRP from the manufacturer! I purchased elsewhere. Second visit, same experience, same person, I have now come to know is the owner of the store. I was standing at the service counter looking to buy a used film camera he had in the glass case. he walked past me three times without even saying hello, no eye contact, nothing again! Needless to say, I walked out again and found a similar camera on ebay. Third visit, same stuff, different day. You know what they say, if you do the same thing over and over again expecting a different results your insane! Yes, I would be insane to ever give Gary camera a penny of my money, ever! I would never give them a good review. Absolutely the worst customer experience...
