I had gone on Groupon to purchase a couples massage for my husband and I as an anniversary gift. I called River of life to schedule before purchasing the Groupon and was told by the owner Sonny to not purchase the Groupon he would honor the Groupon price which was $119 and to just bring in $120 in cash to pay for the services which consisted of a 60 min. massage, hot stones, essential oils and cupping. We went in on 10/17/24 at 10 am (arrived a little before 10) I asked the man at the front desk was his name sonny he confirmed I explained to him that I was the lady that called a few days ago about the Groupon and he said yes and confirmed our conversation of honoring the Groupon price and having the $120 in cash, we were then escorted to our rooms; the therapist came into the room at 10:01am (from a previous review I read on them shorting people on their hr. time and their response was that the times starts when they enter the room ok cool noted). I made certain to look at my phone and the clocks in the room. The massage was going well for us both no complaints on the massages the did wonderful I did have to tell Sonny to ease up on the pressure once, then halfway through my massage Sonny had walked out of the room and went up front and proceeded to talk to and help another customer that had come in which resulted in him being gone at least 5 mins. upon his return he stated that he would give me extra time ok cool. He then continued the massage and at the point where the tell you to turn over to massage you front side, I again peaked at the clock making note of the time the lady stopped my husband's massage at 10:55 and Sonny stopped mines at 10:57 which wasn't the full hr. again I didn't complain I was sort of on a time schedule with our anniversary events. After we got dressed and went up front to pay he has $120 on a printed receipt but then writes $135 and told me that's what I had to pay I told him no that not what you said on the phone or when we walked in you said it was the $120 he tried to show me them ember prices and say that they pay $140 which I didn't care to hear or see because that's not what was on Groupon I even had screenshots of all of the Groupon info showing him the information in Groupon and told him I could have purchased the Groupon and not had to deal with none of this and he would have for sure had to honor the price finally after a few minutes of back and forth i ended up paying the $120 and gave them a tip. I said that to say this please purchase the Groupon to be on the safe side, so you don't have to go through what we went through which turn the experience for us...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn my first visit, I was able to get a 1 hour massage as a walk-in on a Friday evening. I only saw female masseuses walking around between clients. One of them had me settle into my room and told me to remove clothing. I didn't think much of it, thought she was the one to work on me and got comfy. To my surprise once I was undressed and faced down, a male masseuse walked in! I was stunned. The particular element of surprise almost had me nope right out of there; my f3/f4 responses were triggered.
-2 star for not knowing ahead of time that I was getting a male masseuse. When given the option, I often opt for male masseuses anyway because females tend to use more elbows to achieve higher pressures in my experience. The male/female aspect was not the issue. These things need mental preparation based on state of heightened awareness. Iyk,yk.
They offer hot stone and oil massage complementary with their standard swedish/deep tissue massage services.
Before my massage began, I was offered the option of a head massage and walking/thai massage (I normally refer to as ashiatsu, but it wasn't the lingo they used. I thought they were all the same but maybe not). How the masseuse was able to fit in deep tissue, ashiatsu, hot stones AND a wipe down with hot towels in 60 mins, idk.
Actually I do know, very fast.
What I give back 1 star for is for not being left to fend for myself to slip off the table with oil all over. I appreciated that.
I would still recommend this location. All the masseuses I met here were friendly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI found them on Groupon and gave it a shot for a couples massage since its close to our house (don't do Groupon though, they'll give you the same price directly and all of it goes to a local business). They're right next to waffle love at the intersection of Gattis and Greenlawn in Round Rock.
The signage is very general (massage) but it was very clean and the staff was very friendly and professional. You could tell they just sanitized which is good generally but great in a pandemic. They did require masks in the lobby and we also wore ours in the massage (wearing a mask with no clothes š).
They used a variety of different techniques which really seemed like a combo of some of my favorite aspects of other massage places. They ask if you want any area focused on but I got a full body in 60 minutes. I especially enjoyed the hot rocks and warm lotion and left feeling like I was floating on a cloud as did my fiance.
$115 for a couples massage without a membership or anything (used to be a massage envy member) and the quality and care of the staff will definitely have us going back. It was probably the best massage we've each had and I've had a few dozen so that's saying a lot.
They also offer a few different types of specialized massages as well as cupping and they give each person a bottle of water and have free candy...
