I’ve lived here for over a year and although I love the staff and quality products, I am disappointed in Compton’s treatment of their Black customers.
When you enter the store just to your left is a picture of Black man who, we presume, stole from the supermarket. It has the words along the lines of “not allowed in the store” written in marker. This picture has been up for not just a few weeks, but for months.
EDIT: My partner confirms this image was finally taken down after Thanksgiving.
We all know people of all colors and backgrounds steal. In fact, given that most shoppers are White in this area, it’s more likely that any shoplifters are White than any other race. However, in the year I have lived here, I have never seen Compton’s put up an image of a White customer and say “not allowed in the store”.
There are very few Black folk that go to Compton’s to begin with but Compton’s has made it clear that they will scrutinize their Black customers more and even make this scrutiny public.
I am ashamed and will choose not to continue my business here until that image is finally taken down. I encourage other Black allies...
Read moreThis market is located close to my work so I often go here for snacks, cold drinks and/or lunch. Customer service is generally pretty good. Today I needed to get some cash for a luncheon we are having and thought about going to the ATM but decided that I wanted to get an ice tea to drink with my lunch. Figured I'd run over to Compton's and get myself something to drink and pull out some cash. It wasn't until I started the transaction that I noticed the sign on the cash register that states you can only pull out cash with a purchase of $5 or more. So I mentioned it and the cashier said "oh yeah, want me to cancel your transaction?" Well, yes. . .I'm not going to grab more stuff just to pull out cash. A very nice man behind me was going to pull out some cash for me (not sure how he expected me to pay him back). I told him thank you but I would take my business elsewhere. Safeway. . . here I come! I generally like to support small businesses but I have to say Compton's, you just lost a customer and I'll be letting all my coworker's know your ridiculous policy. And by the way. . .the ice tea was less expensive at...
Read moreStarving and I literally have 15 mins for lunch. I work with kids and I need high protein and quick. Walk up to the deli inquiry about gluten free bread. I told her the sandwich I want. She says oh we can't do that it will fall apart. And she just stares at me.
I EAT GLUTEN FREE EVERYDAY. Don't tell me you can't make a sandwich. Maybe modify it. Or suggest something else. But no. She just looked at me clueless.
Don't offer gluten free bread if you have no idea how to use it. Such a waste of time.
And then I had my items on the conveyer belt. They called for help up front. Lady comes up, looks at my and says I'll help you next. I have 8 items on the belt, you move them over or at least help.
This store is the rudest store I have...
