If I could give this store 0 stars I would, but it isn't an option on Google. Where to start? We ordered a relatively large order of Special Order doors on-line via their website, over $1,000 worth. A few days after placing the order, we received an automated reply from the store stating our order was ready for pick up. Approximately 1 week had passed before we could get to the location to pick up our order (we are out of towners and it is approximately 1 hour drive for us) and once we had arranged to borrow a relative's truck and trailer we headed on our journey to pick up our doors. We finally get there and head to the back of the store where we met several guys in Menards uniforms that we provided our receipt to. We knew after just a few moments something was wrong, as they could find only a couple of items from our order and several employees were sent off to try and figure out where the doors had been placed. We waited every single bit of 2 HOURS for the employees, Manager, Assistant Manager to try and track down the order and all of them were scratching their heads as to why they could only find a few items from the order. After searching, they found 1 of the 13 doors in the clearance section with our name on it and the item had been damaged. They claimed they had no idea of the damage, and had never been notified of the issue by the employee who had pulled it from the truck. I was disgusted. Evidently training their employees, is not a top priority in this store or the employee who pulled the item from the truck would have realized that they 1) Should have Re-ordered the door, 2) Notified the customer of the damage to make sure they wouldn't waste a trip until the new shipment was in. Then, after 2 hours of searching and only being able to find 6 doors (1 of which was damaged) they try to tell us that WE PICKED UP our doors before we had even received the notice they were ready for pick up. When they pulled our receipt, they saw that five of our doors from our order had been scanned out and sold to another customer who had picked up previously in the week, and not a single employee could explain to us how or why that would have ever been allowed!! I was outraged! Between damaging part of the order with no notification, accusing of us of picking up part of our order, then watching security cameras and realizing some jerk of an employee sold our doors to another customer for whatever reason. Once again, with no notification to us!! This was a major BOTCHED job by Menard's in so many ways. I have never been a huge Home Depot fan which is why we have been venturing out and driving to Menard's but after today, Menard's ranked bottom of the totem pole in my book. After hourse of wasted time, and disapointment, all they could offer was to re-order the doors and deliver them to our address for free. NEWS FLASH: We wasted an entire day driving to your store, patiently waiting for you to find our order, and then driving back to Overland Park with no doors, wasted a tank of gas and day off of work for you not to correct the issue or offer a discount off the order because apparently, they cannot "compensate" for their mistakes even though they were very clear that it was absolutely their error and it was a big mistake. This store needs to get it together!! We will not be shopping at Menard's in the future. I believe in Big Business that care about the consumer. I do not expect for a company to never make mistakes but a lot can be said about a business that is willing to right their wrongs and do right by the consumer to keep them as a customer. This store, along with it's employees who have clearly had no training, do not care about the customer and when the ball is dropped BIG TIME and they are fully aware of their mistakes, they do not do what it takes to make things right with customers who are loyal to their store. With that sort of mentality, this store/company will...
Read moreUp until March 29, 2025, I would have given Menards in St. Joseph, MO, a 5 star rating. Not anymore. In the last couple of months, we have bought 3 Closet Maid kits in Satin Chrome color. We had enough shelving to add a few more shelves and went to purchase 3 satin chrome brackets. After searching the store, the only ones we could find were on the display. I asked a worker if they would sell us 3 of them. He proceeded to spend 10 minutes on his phone seeing if they had any in stock even though we told him we had searched high and low and all they had were white one. So, then he says, "Yeah, we can't even order them because they are clearancing the colored Closet Maids out and offer only white." So, again, we asked if they could sell us 3 that were on display. He stalled, so I asked if there was a manager we could speak with. He said sure, but I'm sure she won't sell them. I said we'd like to speak with HER. We waiting and she finally came over and we told her we needed 3 brackets in satin chrome to finish our second Closet, that we had already bought 3 kits and that they had what we needed on display. She said No, we can't sell them."" They are being fazed out, but we can't sell them. I said, "So we spent over $300, and you can't sell us 3 pieces that will be trashed when you're done with them. She then tells they won't come apart because they are super glued together. NOT as I was in another Menards were they had mismatched brackets one day and a couple weeks later they matched. She said sweety the only thing we can do is sell you 3 white ones, and you can buy some spray paint and paint them." We said do have "satin chrome" spray paint?? She said, "Oh yeah, we do. NOT. We had the kid in the paint department looking for it for some time before we all came to the conclusion she had lied just to be able to end the conversation. Menards shame on you first for hiring a "manager" who disrespects a customer by calling her "sweetie" and for hiring a manger who lies and is too lazy to get a ladder and get the brackets down and make a sale. This is the same store that had a large bag of bird seed bust open and we witnessed a man ask if he could buy it at a discount since it was being swept up and put in trash cans. Nope. They wouldn't sell it. The man asked what they were going to do with it, and they said throw it away. Shame on you, Menards, for being...
Read moreRented a truck from Menards St. Joe. I brought it back clean with more gas than when I picked it up, in good faith. I knew all the terms, and of the $300 deposit before left home. My car was broken down, so took an Uber there—and is why I made sure to confirm my deposit would go back to my card once the truck was returned. I asked two separate employees. Both confirmed it would.
BUT AFTER I returned the truck, one of the SAME two employees decided to then mention that it may take several days to release my money. So my card then had insufficient funds to book an Uber back home, I had nobody to call and pick me up, and had to WALK SIX MILES home this evening!
This makes me well aware now that Menards is using these rental deposits as a corporate liquidity tactic to look good to shareholders, since they could use Stripe, Square, or pre-auth holds that release instantly, which is sleazy enough of Menard's. But it’s absolutely maddening that they’re SO DISHONEST that employees are apparently instructed to deceive customers, since both employees explained every term in detail but THAT one for some reason.
If all that’s not awful enough of Menard’s in treating customers—I bought a $1000 tiller for which they owe me a $100 rebate I’ve sent them and have been fighting them over, and have yet to get back—like EVERY SINGLE rebate I’ve ever claimed in the 15 years I’ve been a customer. (That’s their biggest scam.)
But what should I expect from a company that weeks before any local regulations ever required it took it on themselves to monetize COVID by requiring masks to enter, then charging $1 for disposable masks at the door while selling the same masks on shelves for $.35 at most. (Look it up.)
St. Joe Menard’s & crew: I hope you return my money quickly, because I seriously don’t know I have enough food in my house to keep myself fed. And I expect a rebate on my tiller and a refund on that truck rental. I will be visiting the store soon to see to it, so I'd appreciate it if you do the right thing and reach out to me now to ameliorate this situation as soon...
