My husband purchased my engagement ring and wedding band over 3 years ago, and that entire experience was amazing! He worked with the Gilroy and Salinas teams to get exactly what we wanted. This review is about our experience this past week (7/21/25) going in to get my rings cleaned. It was a Monday, we had gone in to the mall to purchase shoes. So when we walked into Zales, my husband had his box of new shoes in hand. I just had my phone and wallet in hand. As we walked in from the side where Lids is to the right, I saw an associate on a computer and 2 iPad screens on the left. She looked busy. So I looked to the right of the store where they usually clean jewelry to see if anyone was there that could help us. There wasn’t, so I looked back to her and she greeted us and we let her know we wanted to get my rings cleaned. She asked about the last diamond inspection we did. We couldn’t remember so she said she would look up the account. As she was doing that, she proceeded to tell us that she thought we looked suspicious walking into the store. I was taken aback by that comment. My husband asked if it was because of the shoe box. She said no. I was confused and upset at that point but didn’t say anything as she had my rings and my phone to look at a Zales email I had from the original purchase. We were the only customers in the store and we had only been in there less than 10 minutes when she says that next time, we need to remember to bring in our paperwork for the inspection so that she didn’t have to spend so much time doing this. I became more angry because I understood what she meant but she said it as if we were taking up her time. And she kept condescendingly reminding us she was a Zales customer too and so she knows that people don’t want to wait. We never said a word about how long this was taking or anything. My husband and I were just talking to each other and in no rush because we had the afternoon off. Once she went to clean the rings, a gentleman walked in and she was talking with him most of time. When she came back to us, I don’t know if it was because the other customer was there or because she overheard my husband say he was going to mention this to the manager who’s helped us in the past, but her attitude did a compete 180! She shook our hands, thanked us for our service, and asked for a review. Well, here’s the review! We didn’t say anything else and left. I was livid. Her name is Astrid and she said she had just started at this location. I don’t know what she meant by her comments. I really don’t know what to think. Maybe she was very busy and we just caught her at a bad moment. I just hope this isn’t commonplace because it has us rethinking coming in to this location. My mom gave me a 5-stone diamond ring with a vintage setting (first pic) that set the center stone too high for my taste and I wanted to find a jeweler that has a ring design I liked using the diamonds on the old ring. I only had to pay for the setting (labor included) which was WAY more affordable than other stores I inquired in that charged the setting and labor separate. Brandelle has been very helpful from the time I came into the store months ago to set up my appointment, helping me pick out a new setting and everything else in between. The store manager explained everything so thoroughly and showed me a close up view of the diamonds to ensure that I was getting back the diamonds from the original ring.
