I lived on campus my first year of college. The housing prices were absurd but it's to be expected right? Nope, the rooms are small, crammed, and the staff does not care about students. The only helpful person was our RA, who had a hard time getting in contact with the actual staff. We had a horrible smelling sink when we moved in, and after calling maintenance, their solution was to pour distilled water down the drain. We lived with that smell the rest of the year. The meal plan price was crazy but maybe the food is good? Nope, horrible food and service. Sometimes you could spend upwards of 1.5 hours waiting for a burger. Anyway, I applied for housing for my sophomore year and a month later, my family moved out of the state and I had to move into my house. While cancelling my dorm application I was informed I would be charged an $800 cancellation fee on top of not being given my $200 down payment. I appealed this charge as I thought my reason to not live on campus was understandable. Nope, they sent several very rude emails along with denying my appeal for no reason. I understand if you charge a cancellation fee if someone cancels a couple weeks before school. It's hard to find someone else to take their place in that amount of time. The funny thing is, I cancelled over 2 months before school started and already had a friend taking my place. These people are money hungry scumbags that don't care in the slightest about broke college students. Seriously avoid the housing at all costs. It...
Read moreDon't waste your time appealing for any reason for a refund even if you never get a key or move in!! My son filled out an app online to move in. We couldn't get a hold of anyone labor day weekend (office closed) so we called after hours which went to the police dpt. They sent me to an RA who told us to wait for an email. My son never got an email. In the meantime my son canceled his contract bc he didn't have time to move anymore with school and work. He decided to keep living at home. He was charged $1,300.00 on his acct. He appealed twice and we still had to pay or his classes would drop. They have zero empathy!! .. He never even moved in!! He canceled in 4 days. Avoid this place!!! Why have an appeal option when they don't care? Huge money grab that was so stressful after paying tuition. My son works at Dominos and that was his whole summer of tips for NOTHING! We felt robbed!!! Totally changed my view of the U. I've paid approx them 40k in tuition for my son...and this was a kick in the...
Read moreMeal plans are designed to suck money out of the students’ pockets and there is no grace period to cancel a meal plan & receive a refund of your flex dollars (upwards of $400 lost). I think the way around this would be to use dining dollars through Dining Services. Also, the water heater of the freshman dorms I lived in broke, and we were without warm water for two weeks during the winter. HRE is slow and reluctant to help solve problems with rooming and meal plans. If you can find a different housing option, don’t live on campus. Finding a house or apartment with roommates is...
