Death: Please read: After the recent post on Facebook about this place, I need to share my story. My mother passed away in this place. She was released from the hospital, and sent to Legend Oaks on Hutchins just for rehab (REHAB!!!!!!!!!!). She passed away, and I believe it may have been as a result of their neglect! She was fine at the hospital the night before she was released, and this is why she was released to rehab, she looked and felt great! She went down hill significantly in the care of Legend Oaks over a period of 5 days, and unfortunately passed away in that place! My sister visited her the night she passed, and she called the nurse into the room. My sister told the staff she didn’t look right. One nurse came in and took her blood pressure, and said hmmmm, her pressure is alarmingly low, so she called in another nurse. The second nurse took her blood pressure so quickly, as if she were in a hurry, and the second nurse said oh she’s fine. My sister said she asked them again, are you sure because she’s very incoherent, and she doesn’t look right. They assured her she was okay, and she died 6 hours later. My other sister called to that facility and said my sister told me my mom did not look right, please call the EMS, as we didn’t realize we could. They did not call EMS, and she passed. My sister trusted them to be a professional medical facility, and little did we know they don’t care about anything but their pockets. My mother died as a result of neglect, so please keep your loved ones far from this place. We believed them when they said she was okay, and we should have followed our instincts. Unfortunately, we could not take any action at the time because my father was also ill. We were taking care of him, and couldn’t take things further. He has now passed, and now it’s time to take this further. The Facebook story surfacing about this place just confirms my suspicion of negelect! My family and i have had a terrifying experience with Legend oaks healthcare and rehabilitation. We had made arrangements to leave a relative in their care for the weekend of Independence day. Our relative has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and is able to walk and eat. All we needed was someone to watch over her this particular weekend. We were ensured that she would be watched for and taken care of. As we reach Port Aransas my mother receives a phone call from Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Stating that our relative was safe and had been examined by the doctor after wandering away from the rehabilitation center. A gentleman that works at the valero had contacted them to tell them she was there. From what we found out later this has happened before with another client from the rehabilitation center. we were then told that we needed to return so they can move her to another facility because our relative exceeded their "expertise". We were told they didn't realize how mobile she was; even after being examined by the nurses. all we were told was that she would be taken care of. NOWHERE in their paper work or website states that they can not take care of a client who is mobile. It was an inconvenience for us and strongly upsetting. Now they did comply and returned the fare we initially put down. Although it doesn't make these situations right, especially after finding out that staff from valero had called them before when other resident was found wandering. My father was taken there in October of last year 2023 after being released from the Methodist ICU unit where he had surgery for a subdural hematoma. He was transported by ambulance which he said they it was a bumpy ride and they were driving fast to get him there. The bed he was in was not wide enough like at the hospital.And he did not want to be there.I was not happy with him being there either. I was also worried about him overnight when we weren't around being taken care of as needed. It seemed okay when I came to visit but he had told me that he had a fall while he was there and landed on his back.He said that he could not get up from the floor.He was calling for help and no one came until one of the workers that was cleaning came and helped him get back into the bed. Then the nurse came. They should be liable because when he got home he could not hardly move his arms and hands.Now he has pains in his shoulders, arms and hands.It could be because of that fall. He was there for about 15 days.He was very anxious to leave to go home. He said they were not always careful with rehab. They would just grab his hands to lift him up.And he had an on the job injury with his hands being injured back in the '70s. They weren't very careful. I pray he does not have to experience this place ever again. Also the day he left they didn't give him his green colored blanket back and couldn't even find it when I asked for it when he left that my son had brought for him to use while he was there when we went...
