Well deserved attention for tamales, terrible breakfast tacos. Tellez are among the best commercially produced tamales in San Antonio. Not only do they have good tamales but their service is great. Went today and, despite it being Christmas party season in SA, I was able to grab 6 dozen tamales and be out the door in under 30 min. The line was well organized and the workers were polite and efficient. I rushed to get there early and got in about 7:25 am and the line was almost to the door. The price lists were displayed so that you could know exactly what you were getting by the time you reached the counter. My only reason for taking off a star is that the breakfast tacos are the worst I’ve ever had. The tortillas taste like the shiny, rubbery store bought ones. The chorizo and egg was super light on the chorizo and tasted like nothing. The beans were dry and barely warm so the cheese stayed solid. They were decently seasoned with flavor but tasted like they had no salt. I threw both tacos away after a couple bites of each and bought some at a taqueria down the road. I’ve never had to do that with breakfast...

Was at this location Today because they came out on TV where they won the blue plate award..Well first I was intrested in their mollejas and carnitas tacos. Take it first time there the lady said no mollejas or carnitas today only on weekends…??? No where does it say that so you wouldn’t know if it’s your first time there..So I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos.. I bought 2 tacos,1 doz. of pork tamales, and a serving of capirotada. First the employee that attended me was not even close to friendly, I paid the 30 dollars and as she bagged my merchandise I asked can we eat here .. she didn’t even make eye contact and just answered…yeah…and walked away.. I said thank you ma’am and she didn’t reply. My wife and I decided we would just bring it home instead of that environment. The tamales were $12.50 a doz.and were very salty.Threw away the barbacoa tacos cause the tortilla was soggy soaked in grease. I did eat the capirotada it was good.. They can keep their Blue Plate..won’t be coming back and would not...

Tellez has been our #1 spot for tamales for a couple of years now. I believe there are two locations, but this is the only one I've been to.

My hubby surprised me with breakfast tacos and menudo one morning, and I was in a heavenly bliss. They also have two different types of barbacoa, with one I wasn't thrilled about, but the other I loved. I'm sure it's a matter of preference; but I can't remember which is which. Back to the tamales...

I have to warn you, in December, Tellez can get PACKED and can run out of Tamales quickly! You should check their Facebook for updates...The lines get crazy long and wrap around the large parking lot. It's unbelievable! One year ppl were starting a line the night before opening and it was freezing outside. So we get our Christmas tamales in late November, just to be sure we have some for the...

As always, Tellez does not let down. I mean yea, prices have climbed but still well worth it. My family and I, have made it tradition to get Tellez Barbacoa every Sunday since the late 80s but the company itself was founded in 1975. I've been eating there for almost 40 years! That has to speak to their unique way of cooking it the same way for so long. Normally other places tweak recipes when passed on to the next generation, not here, tradition is key. UPDATE: All the pictures on my review were taken TODAY, April 21, 2024, so prices are current. I hate only seeing prices from 2+ years on reviews 😆 so I took ot upon myself to advertise for them without them asking either, other than a life long customer I DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. I just really love their food.

Really good tamales and chicharones. I also love a good sweet tea and they’ve added this to their menu. The tamales aren’t overly masa-y and the meat is cooked and seasoned nicely. The meat to masa ratio is perfect. Now, their wall boasts best menudo and barbacoa of 2020. I can’t agree on the barbacoa. It’s greasy, unseasoned…which I get, they’re playing it safe but at the end of the days, it’s just bland. Go across the street to Pepe’s for your barbacoa needs. I have had their empanadas and although they have several varieties, I would pass on these. I’ve had a couple of tacos off their line and they’re average. Look around and you’ll find a better taco elsewhere but for your tamale needs this is the place.

The barbacoa is delicious. I had the regular. It wasn’t greasy at all, maybe a little too lean but still tasted great. Goes well with their flour tortillas and pico. I also had the carnitas. They were different than what I’m used too, but tasted good. They aren’t greasy or oily at all. The fat is rendered and isn’t chewy. I got the tripas too, they were ok as they weren’t crunchy and cooked to my preferences. Given that, they tasted alright just different than what I’m used too. I’ll refry them later! Service was nice and friendly, will definitely go back soon!
