Montblanc Hair Field — Local services in San Diego

I had been searching up and down Google for a salon that did the Japanese Hair Straightening and that's how I came upon Montblanc Hair Field. Thanks to La Jolla Mom's blog post about getting her hair done here and saying she had an amazing experience, I took a leap of faith and came to try it out first by getting a haircut and blow dry.

I had Shu as my stylist for my cut and blow dry and he was just the sweetest. Very gentle, professional and quiet. I felt very comfortable and well cared for the entire time I was there. Shu was extremely polite and gentle the entire time. Not once did he burn my scalp or hair, or tear my hair, unlike other salons where i've been burned pretty badly.

I also met Masa and he was just as polite and kind as Shu. He did my mom's hair and honestly he did an amazing job. My mom looked almost 10 years younger when she walked out and it made my day to see her smiling like that. She was so happy with her cut that she was actually admiring herself in the mirror. She said Masa listened to her and her requests and he was very accommodating and gentle with her, unlike her previous hair stylist.

It's been a long time since I've seen her smile and look like that again so I'm extremely happy with the service!

The interior of the hair salon is very clean and quaint, the atmosphere calming. The entire staff here is super sweet and polite. They actually listen to you and what you have to say. Unlike american hair stylists that think they know what's best for you and your hair.

Although they are a bit on the expensive side, to me it's worth every penny. I won't hesitate to come back here again. They are all wonderfully talented and super nice so that right there is worth coming back for.

In fact i'll be coming back in March to get my hair straightened using the Japanese hair...

I got the Japanese Hair Straightening Perm done here by Shu. The service itself was great. As anyone in the market for a hair straightening perm knows, it can be a bit pricey. Generally, the Korean Magic Straight is cheaper, and many argue that these two procedures are identical.

As someone with damaged hair from 2 years of straightening/curling, I was afraid that this service would make the damage worse, and require whatever salon I chose to cut off several inches of my hard work. However, the treatment was so non-damaging that I only needed a maintenance trim to have luscious hair again.

From my previous experience, Magic Straight had always damaged my hair after the procedure, and as someone with thick, curly, coarse hair, it would take anywhere between 7-9 hours. At Montblanc, it only took 4.5 hours, which is a huge pro for me.

Not having to spend several hours maintaining my hair, keeping the length for the most part, and having healthy hair again is a dream come true. Despite the price, it was absolutely worth the investment, and I strongly recommend this to anyone experiencing similar struggles.

Finally, I'd like to discuss the customer service itself. Shu is a wonderful hair stylist that kept an engaging conversation for a good portion of the treatment. At the end, there was a small bump in the back, but he offered to redo it for free.

Literal magic!! Masanobu Takada did a phenomenal job doing (Silky) Japanese Hair Straightening on my hair. I still can't believe it 🥹 This is literally my dream hair, so I'm crazy happy with the results.

Mine was ~4.5 hours. It is on the pricy side, but I can't deny the results! If you get this type of straightening, just be prepared for the smell 😷 It's not for the weak 😅 The room had nice ventilation, so it wasn't too bad, but it can be overwhelming at times. The washing/rinsing part was my favorite part 😆 He really took great care, and it was super relaxing. I wasn't sure I could bring earbuds because I was afraid it would get in the way, but he said it was fine and that you could also order food. I would suggest bringing something light to help since it's basically an all-day thing.

I'm awkward and not much of a talker, so I was happy that he didn't seem to mind 😊 He was very patient, asked questions, and gave suggestions. When I had questions, he answered earnestly. When I changed my mind about my bangs, he still trimmed them and made them fuller and better. Every step of the way he was meticulous about how my hair was looking. Without words, I had full trust in him and his work.
