Top notch gym with knowledgeable Muay Thai coaches, a clean environment, and winning fighters to improve your fitness and technique.
I have trained at 2 other gyms and trialed a few others in the area. This has been the best one in my experience.
Knowledgeable Muay Thai Coaches— I have trained with coach Alexa, Hiro, and Carl. Not only are they friendly, but they are also very knowledgeable in Muay Thai. Each of them brings a unique perspective of the craft so you have options when developing your own style. From fixing my form so it is less vulnerable to sharing techniques that are practical in real world scenarios, these coaches are top of the class in the field. Even if you forget about the feedback given to you the first time around, they will be patient in future classes and repeating the feedback until you are ready for the next improvement.
On top of their Muay Thai classes, their cardio heavy bag classes also go beyond giving members a good workout. Unlike the generic cardio workout at some gyms, their heavy bag classes often emphasize proper techniques and practical applications while mixing in the cardio element.
Clean Environment— While some gyms claim cleanliness, Steel just demonstrates it with action. Sanitizing wipes are provided so members can clean their equipment after each class. No regular street shoes are permitted on the mat. Mats are often swept and mopped before the next class. There is also an onsite shower and bathroom.
Winning Fighters— I often hear announcements of members competing--and then in the next class, another announcement of them winning the fight. I have personally heard of at least 6 members who have won fights in the 9 months that I have been training at this gym. For those who are serious about competing or want to test the waters, this gym definitely has the record to develop winning fighters.
While evening classes can sometimes get crowded, especially when multiple classes are happening concurrently, the coaches do a good job of coordinating their instructions to minimize disruptions.
Whether you want to work on your fitness, learn the techniques, or even compete, this gym has something to offer everyone. I suggest trying out a class and see...

They offer several styles such as Muay Thai, Dutch kickboxing, Boxing, and Jiujitsu. I will come back to San Diego someday and Steel MMA will be the first place I Stop for a visit!...
Read moreI can't stand 24-Hour Fitness because it's so busy and you have to come almost a half hour before any class in order to get a spot. I wanted to find a gym that had fun classes that would also give me an incredible workout. Now, I'm not one to sit on any machines, I only do classes, so when I found Steel MMA, it was perfect! What I love about Steel MMA's classes is that the workouts work EVERY PART OF YOUR BODY and it's such a fun way to release stress. Believe me, I'm not a fighter which I think some people don't realize that you don't have to be to join a MMA gym. It's a functional workout that's fun and keeps you in shape. I've been to other MMA gyms in San Diego, but I gotta say, Steel MMA is different from all the rest. The coaches all the way up to the owners are super passionate about what they do and it has a family like atmosphere, which I love. From the moment I walked in, Mike, one of the owners greeted me and walked me through the program. They also give arm bands to new members so that the coaches pay extra attention to make sure you are comfortable/correctly doing the moves, which was super helpful. Love...
