When I was in San Francisco I knew this was a must on my list of places to stop. We had a SCRAP in Arcata Ca, but it closed due to the pandemic. I had high expectations for this SCRAP... and boy oh boy did they meet those expectations! Let me start by saying its in the sketchiest part of town and you'll think you are about to be kid napped .... If you feel this way, you have definitely found the right place and its safe! I was absolutely thrilled with the treasures I found here. I left with a dozen assorted embroidery hoops, two bags of fabric, gardening supplies, craft paper, and a truly epic newspaper from my home town that was almost 100 years old all for about $20.
My only frustration was the lack of pricing in the store. I have been in SCRAPs elsewhere so I understood that I wasn't going to pay much, but this could be really frustrating if someone came in on a limited budget. Nobody likes to have to put stuff back. I understand that it's hard to price every unique thing, but a general price sheet for the aisle would be nice. I saw a few small price tags on certain bigger ticket items. My friend and I looked at the paper aisle for 15 minutes and never once saw a general price list anywhere. Maybe we missed it, but I noticed this in almost every aisle except the fabric. Even just $x for a 1" stack, or $x for each sheet would have been all we needed.
All in all we spent about an hour there, and I will definitely be back again. It...
Read moreWhat can I say if youâre ever at all bored this is like a general store mixed in with a art supply place in a hobby fun compound all in one you could play here you could buy stuff here for hobbies or you could just spend sunny or rainy days, endlessly going down the aisles finding the next thing that fascinates you if you wanna just space out on fun to do stuff or find new projects that seemingly create themselves as u wade through a fantasyland in ur mind of projects created by all the cool and playful props that continually pop up in front of you seemingly randomly since products are changing all the time (heavy donations) and the journey just goes on and on and time flys by and you donât even notice just like this triple long run on and on sentence which ya barely even noticeâŠ.
BUT One thing you will take notice is that the prices are right when you get to the register in front, you can get an estimate of how much all of this stuffâs gonna cost you because there are no price tags generally and itâs up to the person at the front register to go ahead and cash you out so sometimes if you get somebody in a good mood, you can get an incredible score here a lot of value for your moneymuch better than anywhere else and that is no joke or exaggeration at all. as far as bang for your buck youâd be hard-pressed and good luck to try and find a place that out does SCRAP. which by the way is an acronym standing for scroungers center for...
Read moreI love this place, I don't get to go into San Francisco much, but when I do, I have to visit SCRAP or my visit seems incomplete. Over the years I've found some wonderful art and or craft materials that fit on my fixed income budget. Staff are always nice and helpful. One time I was $2 short on something I really wanted, I was willing to put it back, ok not willing, but I would have regretfully, I didn't say anything about being short money, but maybe the staff could tell? They asked me how much I had, and I told them, and they knocked $2 off the price. It's hard to find caring customer service like that, but SCRAP offers that. I'm not saying go in and ask for discounts on everything, I mean they are a non-profit or whatever after all, they need money to keep things going, but it was nice that they saw me struggle and helped a Crafter out. If you like going on a treasure hunt for crafts and arts supplies then SCRAP is the place for you. If you live in San Francisco or near, I recommend going in there weekly because you don't want to miss something special, do you? (Id go weekly if I lived near, I live in Sacramento, but my heart belongs to San Francisco....sorry for that cheesy line, but it's true...lol.)
SCRAP, Thank you for existing. Your...
