This unfortunate incidents happened to me and I will abbreviate it (it was worse than what I am reported here). For legal protection, this allegedly happened:
I went to Amos Brown, Pastor for Pastoral counseling. (1) I needed support with dealing with restructuring my life after leaving/divorced from a very abusive and dangerous marriage. So, I go in and tell him a little bit about what happened and his response to all the danger and abuse that I explained was this: "You dress to flashy!" He did not care about the harm he was causing me by being mean, blaming me for being a victim of DV, and almost loosing my life. He was just mean, arrogant, and stone-faced.
For legal protection, this allegedly happened, but this was my experience: Yep, that is all he said to me. Blaming how I dress (which was very conservative, but that should not even matter; so he blamed me for the physical/emotional/financial abuse that I endured for over 3-years. I had on a long Poncho coat, long skirt, and long sleeved top that you could not even see under the heavy wool poncho, but again, how I was dressed was not what caused my domestic violence (blaming the female victim is a typical misogynistic male tactic. Gosh.. what a horrible experience.
For legal protection, this allegedly happened: (2) Amos Brown, made fun of people's clothes when he was preaching on Sunday. A few times when I went to Sunday service he would talk about people's looks. This specific time, he started making fun of people who come to church dressed in saggy pants and over sized tops. Really? So since when does going to church require a certain type of clothes to be welcomed? The sad part was that people were laughing at t he expense of other people who came to church dressed a certain way that HE DID NOT LIKE. Gosh...
For legal protection, this allegedly happened: Side note about the conservative nature of the church: In any event, I soon left the church because, a young man from the congregation told me that I was Too much to be in a church that places Men above women and I was too much of a rebel I was talking about how the church only had male preachers and relegated women to fundraising and traditional "women's type of work"!
So, I would not recommend this church is you are progressive and think...
