A real bargain, great value for the price! In May 2024 inner room with Queen bed cost U$43/weeknight, and U$73/Friday&Saturday night.
The inner courtyard is closed overhead, so there is little ventilation advantage in keeping your windows open. There are four other rooms per floor sharing the shaft.
The person opposite you has a window perfectly aligned with yours, so if you close the blinds for privacy, you lose all daylight. Consider bringing lightweight fabric to use as curtains.
The room includes a fridge and microwave, and a wardrobe with one drawer, and two tiny bedside drawers. There is also a small shelf for towels that you can use for storage. Consider bringing hooks for hanging clothes on the side of the wardrobe. Mine hook over my suitcase on top of the wardrobe.
The sink works, but the water pressure is terrible, and the longer you run the cold water the hotter it gets until it’s almost as hot at the hot water tap. This makes the room water unsafe for drinking. I recommend filling your water bottle using the washroom in the lobby.
Beside each bed are two USB charging ports, which is very handy, along with two electric outlets, and a reading lamp. Unfortunately, one side doesn’t work in room 204. (The reading lamp which works in our room is fitted with an extremely bright bulb.)
The ceiling fixture is dimmable, and includes a fan.
It would be great if there were small folding chairs and maybe a small table that could drop down from the wall, but at these prices you can't expect everything!
Most rooms do not have en-suite bathrooms. Each floor has two toilets and two showers. I found them clean and and compact. A hook or rack for your towel would be appreciated, but I just hung mine on the shower door handle.
Overall I’m quite pleased. I found walking here from the BART a bit of a challenge with the wonderful SF hills, but there are buses stopping very nearby.
There is no elevator, so you may wish to travel lightly!
This is NOT an accessible hotel! Being energetic is definitely an asset!
The inner rooms are quiet, but if you like fresh air, daylight, and privacy, you may prefer to endure the street noise. For much of the day, tho, there is little traffic, so city dwellers probably won’t really notice it.
At these prices I will...
Read moreWhen I arrived to the hotel to check in, a nice woman attented to me. I asked her about a friend who was going to visit me but he is not going to sleep, he was going to be helping me with job stuffs for a while. So, the woman whose initial is R, told me that it was okay, he just got to come inside and go upstairs to my room. A couple hours later, my friend called me and told me that the recepcionist was not allowing him to come up, and I had to go downstairs. The recepcionist was now a different woman (Asian and her initial is A) and she started to shout to me, saying that I cannot take visitors to my room, and I had to pick up my friend. She added that it is a policy of the hotel, which is not allowing visitors. She was very rude to me, in front of more customers, and also with my friend. After a couple of hours, I tried to ask for apologizes, but she laughed at me and my English (because I'm not fluently in English). Never again in that hotel!
Read moreThis is my second stay here and both times I’ve had a room that didn’t have a private bathroom so this might not apply to the rooms that have them. I’d say if you just want a simple place to just sleep, this place is barely ok. However, there’s a lot of things wrong with the place.
The building and interior aren’t clean. Bed sheets are not clean and when you have the maid service fix up the room while you’re out, they don’t even replace the bedsheets, they just remake the bed with the same sheets hoping you wouldn’t notice. Exposed outlets. The carpet floor doesn’t look clean. No fan or air conditioning so some nights can be hot making it uncomfortable to sleep at times. Some of the lotion dispensers in the rooms don’t even work and have a crack in them exposing it. A lot of the door/cabinet handles are loose/broken/hanging off. The communal showers are ok but the shower mat seems gross and wouldn’t risk touching that at all.
Staff is helpful if you have an issue but seem a little too laid back and doesn’t give a confidence sense to the place.
The only plus sides I can vouch for this place is that it can be quiet at times (assuming other guests aren’t blasting their TVs which you can very easily hear from the windows unfortunately) and that it’s cheap which, again, if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and spend most of your day out, it’s barely ok at best.
The place could use a lot of polish and fixing that I don’t think they care enough to do as some of the issues I’ve seen back in April 2024 still remained exactly the same as I saw them during my current visit. If you are able to spend more money and want actual comfort or just a clean feel during your visit, I’d recommend going anywhere else than here. Feels like even for the somewhat affordable price, you’re paying...
