This college may be wonderful for those who have the financial means to pay for college while also paying for childcare and everything else from funding that comes from outside the school itself. But the college is very difficult for a single mom who has prior college education from outside the state and is not a high school drop out or something similar. Who tried her very hardest while in college to maintain a high GPA and not fail courses because she lost her mom or became pregnant or any of the other challenges that life presents. Just know that this college does not provide much help when it comes to those who have a need for it and are considered not "high need" because they have done well in school and completed their courses. Now I'm being forced to drop classes because my SAP review was denied because they don't feel that I have completed my educational goal even when they are only accepting four of the numerous classes that I took at another college as transfer credit. But I will give RCC a shot and see if they have more family friendly policies that want to see a single mom succeed. Now I will have to withdraw from all my courses since the SAP review took a months time to process to tell me I was denied and now I've used all my rent money to pay my childcare up...
Read moreBest education I could have received. Better than university and cheaper (I have since gine on to get a Masters). Lower division courses with articulation agreements automatically transfer to CSU or UC with priority admission. I didn't have to jump through hoops or take stupid tests to transfer, I just got in because I already had three Associates degrees.
The educators here are phenomenal. Dr. Denise Dalaimo (sociology), Pamela Ford, (anthropology), Willie Hamilton (political science- since retired), Maria Lopez (psych), Blaga Pauley (math-RIP), DR.STERLING ROULETTE (A&P and don't call him Doctor), so many others (I can't remember my chemistry, English, Spanish, speech, or statistics instructors) and the ENTIRE NURSING FACULTY, their voices are still with me after more than two decades.
This is an Ivy League education on a dollar store budget. Send your kids here, you won't regret it. Also, both campuses are beautiful. Consider why people with Doctorate degrees are teaching here instead of a fancy university with politics and tenure - it's because they're there TO TEACH, not get famous. They should be famous. I am forever grateful to MSJC and the professors I still love after all these years.
This college will always be my alma mater, no matter...
Read moreThis school turned out to be really awful. They don't have consistent drop dates which caused me to owe money to the financial aid office when I obviously don't have any since I am a recipient of pell grant. Don't come here. They really don't care about your education. The classes are always booked and there is no way for you to get any classes you need if you are not a priority student, which is the case for most of us. So you are stuck taking the classes no one wants like anthropology, the left over classes. I wasted two years here and finally realized it is just not worth it and will be moving to RCC. Good luck to any who will be attending, you will need it in this ill equipped school. One more notable problem: the counseling offices are always booked and there is never anyway to get a meeting. I've tried multiple times but never could get an opening. I've tried going very early in the morning to try and snag an opening, or very early before the semester starts, never any way to get any help. And they do not make appointments, which is very counter productive. It is like these teachers do not really care about your education or the time and effort you put into trying to transfer into...
