I went to this Stater Bros to see if they had A certain brand of canned cat food that has been very difficult to find (for some strange reason) and they had a few cans so I picked up three and went to register. I was going to pay with my debit card because I wanted to get $20 cash back instead of having to go to an ATM where I would end up paying around $6 which I didn't have but only $23 in my account so the ATM wouldn't have been possible. When I swiped my card I saw a little note saying "cash back only with purchases over $5". I asked if that was really the way it was because the Staters by my house doesn't have a min. purchase requirement and the "Cash Back Y or N" was on the card reader. The little snot at the register was all sing-songy..."Yep that's the way it is!". I asked "even if all I want is $20?" and she responded "even if all you want is a $20, yep!". I said"nevermind, take the cat food back" and her response was "Okay! You have a nice day then!", all in that sing-songy voice. She saw I was obviously peeved so why don't you say something else like "I'm sorry..."? She knew she was trying to be a snot and succeeded. She doesn't need to be working with people or she needs to grow up a bit more before working for a place like Stater Bros. She looked all of maybe 18. Girl needs manners and more experience with how to talk to people who are not happy about an issue with the company she works for. I held my composure and walked out. Good thing it's not my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDue to my schedule I'm almost always the last customer in the store and everyone from the box boys to the security guards and even the managers are always pleasant if not down right friendly. And I'd like to give a great big shout out to Michael, the closing cashier, who's always courteous, friendly and in good spirits. I've known Michael since I frequented the Stater Brothers located in Valle Vista years ago when I was unhoused. And despite my sometimes disheveled appearance and meager means I was never treated with anything other than respect and the utmost dignity by Michael who truly encompasses the very best qualities of a true gentleman. Thankfully, my situation now is much improved, having been housed now in San Jacinto for nearly four years. Imagine my surprise then, during the height of the covid pandemic, to hear a familiar voice concluding the ladies purchase ahead of me with his signature refrain of, "And will there be any ice or stamps today, m'lady?" I looked up to find Michael at the helm here at the Village at San Jacinto location. Nothing short of a master in the art of customer service, his presence at the till back then and now has always been a welcome highlight to my visits and a friendly reminder of one of the few bright points of my often difficult and dehumanizing times in the street. Treat him well Stater Brothers he's the epitome of an essential worker and a magnificent asset to your...
