1.) Anyone here complaining that you aren’t receiving a Hollywood welcome when you walk in the door, remember this is a place to train, to fight, to discipline mentally and physically. This place is 100% mindset ready. You want the feel goods? Go to Gracie and basically have your kid get an extended recess. AKA is meant for people wanting to take this seriously.
2.) The instructor ratio is NOT 1 instructor for 30 kids! My son, 7years old, has at LEAST 3 instructors for about 20 kids and gets an incredible amount of attention.
3.) We were at Gracie for months and my son learned nothing paying 100$ more a month and limited to 3X per week. You can train here, with actual fighters 5 nights a week from 5-6 pm for this age group. We have been here 1 month and my son is obsessed. He learns new things every single session and on top of that, the instructors don’t put up with bad behavior. Discipline here is real. My son’s teachers at school have noted his respect and attention in class has DRASTICALLY improved as well.
4.) You really EARN your belts here. At the other gym, as long as you put TIME in (which translates to $) you earn the next stripe, the next belt.
Conclusion: Come to AKA if want results in your kids life both on and off the mat. Everywhere else is just a...
Read moreMy daughter is 4 and loves it here, the coach is amazing with kids. She is always excited to go back. She gets a great work out, and is always learning new things . Friendly staff and cool AKA gear.
Update: If you are lucky to be able to train at AKA dont miss out. We moved out of town and no gym compares to the quality of training you get at AKA. The staff is amazing, they truly make you feel like family, the gym is cleaned daily. They really go above and beyond to make your entire family feel welcomed. It broke our hearts to leave AKA. And now after having our daughter train at other gyms we realize the magnitude of how great AKA really is. Dont waste your time at other gyms. Our daughter loved seeing many of the fighters she saw on TV there at AKA , it was a constant reminder that hard work pays off. The prices are good due to the quality of training and the amount time you...
Read moreVisited to inquire about classes. Disappointed.
Pros:
Coaches and trainers are qualified professionals with experience
-Reasonable pricing (maybe not, considering the student to instructor ratio)
Cons:
The female employee at the desk had some weird cocky attitude. I understand that this is the "superstar" gym, but some people like me just don't really care about that. Just interested in training.
If you want to train here hoping you would run into famous fighters, don't even bother.
Instructor to student ratio is not balanced. 35~40 people to 1 Instructor is pretty bad. I visited 4 other gyms in SJ area, and they are like 30 at most.
It might be a personal thing, but it smells like boys locker room in high school.
I'm sure the instructors are great and all, but I just wanted to leave an actual review because most the of the reviews are just praising...
