There is no room for improvement at the airport. The people who direct traffic are by far the best ever, as is the rest of the airport experience. That is with one exception--Avis Rent A Car.
STOP!!! Whatever you do, run, donโt walk, from Avis.
I rented a car from the Avis location at Terminal B, San Jose Mineta International Airport on August 28, 2025. I was outright defrauded by Avis. First, I rented the car at about 5:30 PM. However, I did not need the car until 7:30 PM and asked if I could make the reservation and get the car at 7:30 PM. Avis told me that the rental rates were going up at 6:00 PM and that I should rent the car before 6:00 PM to avoid the cost increase. That was an outright lie.
And, the Avisโs lies and fraud continued. I told Avis that I needed a car with adaptive cruise control. I told them that I have been driving cars with adaptive cruise control for eight years, and that it would be unsafe for me to drive a car without adaptive cruise control because I am used to driving cars with adaptive cruise control. They told me that the car that I was renting had adaptive cruise control. The truth is that the car Avis rented to me was a stripped down model that did not have adaptive cruise control.
And, more Avis fraud and lies. I asked Avis if they had a location in Monterey, CA. They told me that there was a location at the Monterey airport. I asked if there were any Avis locations in downtown Monterey, as opposed to the airport. Avis told me that the Monterey airport was their only location in Monterey. I told them that I would return the car at the Monterey airport. Nonetheless, Avis put the return location as the San Jose airport, which is a two hour drive from Monterey.
And, even more Avis fraud and lies. Without telling me that they did so, Avis charged me for every optional chargeโe.g., Loss Damage Waiver, Personal Accident Insurance, etc., etcโฆ. I told them that I wanted none of the extras, but they included them nonetheless.

Now, let me share a little bit of history about this fantastic airport. San Jose Airport, also known as Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, has a rich history dating back to its opening in 1945. Originally named San Jose Municipal Airport, it served as a military airfield during World War II. ๐ฉ๏ธ
Over the years, the airport underwent several expansions and renovations to accommodate the growing number of passengers. Today, it stands as a modern and efficient airport, offering a wide range of domestic and international flights. โ๏ธ
Whether you're a frequent flyer or just someone who appreciates a hassle-free journey, I highly recommend checking out this airport. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! ๐

ย ย ย Read moreThis airport is one of the worst in the states. Its small. Its old. Its stuffy. Mid September and either the air conditioning isnt on at all or its set at 80. If you exert energy walking in here, youโll be hot. The bathroom stalls are as tiny as ones in the mall. Trying to get into the stall with a big backpack is a tight squeeze. If you have a rolling luggage, youโll have to leave it outside of the stall and hope no one tampers with it. Exiting a Delta flight, going to baggage claim was ridiculous. I walked and walked and walked and walked for about 15 mins following the baggage claim signs. When I made it there, all carousels were empty and no passengers waiting for luggage. The information desk thankfully had workers there to give information. When I told them I was looking for my luggage, they asked what airlines I came from, then proceeded to tell me that I walked 0.5miles too far. For some reason this airport has several baggage claim areas. The signage is horrible. I followed baggage claim signs. Not one sign stood out to say that there are several and to pay close attention to which one your luggage will be at. The lady told me that to get back to the other baggage claim area, I would have to exit the building, go outside, cross the street, walk down a little bit, wait for a bus to take me there. Thatโs insanely ridiculous. As I walked so far, I saw ZERO staff assisting elderly/handicapped. I saw no one to ask for assistance transporting. Iโm used to seeing golf cart like vehicles inside terminals transporting people and people being assisted in a wheelchair by staff. Not here. This place needs a major major remodeling. As far as it is from one end to the other, they need one of those conveyor belts that people stand/walk on to get further, faster. I will certainly try to never end up at SJC again. I hated...
