San Marino Optometry is a lovely gem of an optometry office located in a charming, modestly-sized mid-Century modern shop on Huntington Boulevard, with lots of free parking immediately nearby. This is the first year I’ve worked with them, and Drs. Phan and Nguyen, and their staff, proved to be highly knowledgeable, personable, and a pleasure to work with. I’ll definitely be coming back as my prescription changes.

During my eye exam, Dr. Phan answered my many questions about my changing prescription, the differences between various progressive lenses, and what to consider when filling my prescription, going into just the right amount of detail.

On my second visit, to get fitted for new glasses, Dr. Nguyen was similarly attentive and answered all my questions. When I came in to pick up my new glasses, it was quite dramatic—at least, for me—the Varilux-X lenses they recommended are a major improvement over my previous progressive lenses, and I couldn’t be more pleased with Drs. I visited Dr. Nguyen two times for an eye exam recently and I couldn't be more impressed. Not only is the office warm and welcoming, but Dr. Nguyen is also incredibly knowledgeable and attentive.

From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel comfortable. They greeted me right away with warm smiles. The place is clean and bright. I got contacts here during the summer but in the recent week, I suddenly could not see very clear. I called the office and they told me it’s unusual and scheduled me for an appointment right the next day. Dr. Nguyen did another eye exam for me and took the time to explain each step and answered all my questions with patience and clarity. It’s evident that they genuinely care about their patients’ eye health. We found out that there are scratches on my left eye, possibly from me rubbing the eye with contacts still inside my eye. Dr. Nguyen gave me another contact to try for two weeks. I feel much better now that I can see better and that I know I’m in good hands.

My husband and I LOVE this office and appreciate everyone who works here. Every person is so kind and personable, and the office environment is clean, welcoming, and professional. Dr. Nguyen is the best—he is knowledgeable, efficient, explains things clearly, and a few years ago basically saved my husband from going blind (it’s a long story, but we can’t thank him enough for knowing his stuff and alerting us to an emergency situation). I have a very light prescription myself, and he’s been straightforward with my options when it comes to whether or not I need to spend money on a new pair of glasses, even letting me trial what the new lenses would change so I can decide for myself if I think it’s necessary.
