How can one resist a bakery whose logo features the dapper profile of a fancy French bulldog, and whose name translated to English means fairy tale? You cannot! Conveniently located in the shopping center shared with Harmons, and taking over the space previously inhabited by Subway, Conte de Fée is has arrived to charm us all.
CDF is a sort of French inspired Asian bakery. The cakes are all light and spongey, the frosting closer to whipped cream, and nothing is too sweet. I picked a slice of the cookies n cream cake, basically an icebox cake made with Oreos, or a grown up dirt cake without the cream cheese part. However you want to look at it, it was simply, yummy, and not too filling. The strawberry cake featured yellow cake and fresh strawberries, again, just sweet enough, and never overwhelming. Lastly, the tiramisu was made in a cute little to go container, and while it wasn’t as pretty as the cake slices, it was just as yummy, with subtle notes of rum and coffee.
Other goodies worth mentioning are the just-as-cute-as-it-sounds rainbow cake, perfect-for-spring matcha cake, and pretty little chocolate mousse cake. I would have picked up a slice of the latter, but it is currently only available as a full cake, I did not want to put myself in danger of eating an entire one (they said they hope to have it available by the slice soon!). They make trendy nama truffles, jammy shortbread cookies, and even had some savory scones. Drinks are available too: a few options of coffee and tea, but I am more excited by the variety of “ades” and strawberry or raspberry clouds!
They have really fixed up the inside, and you would never know it was previously a sandwich shop. Stained concrete floors, giant palm plants, stylish light fixtures, and wood-topped bistro tables make a pleasant scene, and I look forward to a time when we can comfortably all dine together again.
Prices are similar to other area bakeries, they packaged my purchases up very carefully, and the two women who assisted me were friendly and lovely as could be. They also responded to an Instagram DM very quickly. Oh, and they are open on Sunday! Yas! I look forward to seeing what fun seasonal goodies they offer, and getting my hands on those truffles and...
Read moreReally enjoyed my first visit to the Conte De Fee bakery. Loved the tasteful simplicity of the decor. But I came for the cakes and sampled 4 different ones: Rainbow, cookies n creme, strawberry cake and strawberry crepe cake. The crepe cake was my favorite—it was light with a hint of sweet and the perfect amount of strawberries. I would’ve preferred the strawberries to be cut into smaller pieces in the layers because it made it hard to eat. The only other thing was that she topped it with a spray-can whipped cream, which seemed to lower the elevated experience of a fine cake shop. Not that it wasn’t good—who doesn’t like a good can of whipped cream? The rainbow cake is beautiful and fun, but there isn’t much flavor. It’s moist and subtly sweet but not much to it. Nothing was too sweet, which I liked but I think I would’ve liked just a hint more sweetness to make me feel like I was actually eating dessert. I will come back and I want to try these strawberry cloud drinks so many people have...
Read moreI wanted to love this place. With the high ratings I was excited and ordered 2 cakes last spring, their chocolate and a special lemon one. I was so disappointed, the cakes were dry and very little flavor. The lemon tasted like white cake only. Needless to say I tried but couldn't get over the texture and lack of flavor. A few weekends back i was craving a sweet so i decided to give them another try, its been over a yesr. So I went and got a tiramisu. Again, no flavor, I couldn't believe it. Tiramisu is so flavorful, it had no coffee flavor, no sweet flavor, nothing, just felt like I was eating unflavored cream. The cake they tried to use within the tiramisu also didn't work. I actually prefer my sweets "mild", in other words donuts are too much for me, too much sugar. So I was shocked I didn't...
