06/22/2024 (updated): I've been a member for 2 years at Planet Fitness here in Sarasota, FL. After Thursday's run-in with Tina (who I have since learned is the Manager of this location), I am at a loss for words. I went to tan on my lunch break (something I've done regularly since joining). I believe the team members typically on-shift between Noon-1pm during the week can vouch for my character. NEVER have I experienced anything like what I did Thursday with the Manager herself, Tina. It quickly escalated into DEFCON-5 level nastiness, embarrassingly so. As manager of a business, she represents that business. Thursday's encounter ended with her terminating my membership on the spot, for the simple reason being she had the power to do so. Apparently, I had the audacity to stand up to her behavior and she didn't like that. She was rude, condescending and completely unprofessional from the moment I checked in for a tanning booth (something she clearly did not know how to operate). Her mannerism was as though she was busy & didn't want to be bothered with this mundane task. Tempers flared in the end. Make no mistake however, she & I both know precisely what transpired that afternoon. I was on my lunch break & did not have time to waste. I said as much to her (after I saw her roll her eyes when she didn't know I was looking at her). That was the 1st time I had to re-dress in the tanning room/come back out front. I stood in the room for an exorbitant amount of time/had to re-dress myself/come back out front/watch her fiddle w/ the keyboard she clearly did not know how to use/only to return to the room again, undress, and stand there longer because nothing was happening with the machine. I even called the front desk TWICE from the room. Yet, all of that was my fault apparently. Check that box. I avoid confrontation of any kind, but it will be a cold day in hell & pigs will literally fly before I tolerate someone speaking to me or treating me like this woman did. In my opinion, this woman does not have the strength of character to be in a position of authority. The final straw occurred as I was leaving - The absurd show she put on (very loudly) in front of members when I gave up altogether on tanning because I had to get back to work. As I was leaving, I thanked her for wasting my time (I was beyond annoyed by then). I was now late returning to work and VERY irritated at how ridiculous the whole thing was - She never once so much as apologized or took any accountability over her obvious ineptitude at operating the tanning booth. She went off like a bottle rocket (this woman is a real piece of work folks) so I turned back, now I was FUMING! Words were exchanged, I was LIVID! As I turned to leave again, she said I was the one who was "rude" and "didn't know how to follow instructions" and she was going to cancel my membership and not to try coming back as long as she's Manager. I was rude?! I didn't "follow instructions"?! All lies of course (I've been using the booths for years). All that was, was an attempt to save face (and embarrass me in the process) because there were other members/staff standing around witnessing this exchange. Bravo Tina! Encore! People need to be forewarned. She will intimidate you. If you dare stand up to her, she'll cancel your membership on the spot, and you will have zero recourse. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" - Newton's Third Law. After contacting Corporate, I was told this has been escalated up to Regional. Who knows what will come of this, if anything. The Manager at this Planet Fitness is on a serious power-trip though, and someone needs to put her in check. I've filed a report w/ the Better Business Bureau seeking FULL reimbursement of my membership dues. CLEARLY your membership is contingent upon putting up & shutting up when it comes to the Manager. People need to know that if you ever stand up to her in any way, she WILL cancel your membership on the spot. You will have no recourse because it will be your word against hers. The...
Read moreI came to this Planet Fitness near Downtown Sarasota located on 501 N Beneva Rd, which is basically within the Town and Country Mall. I have never had a bad experience with any planet fitness gyms except for this one located near the downtown area. I came here in January a couple days after New Year’s Day and then one of the staff members or housekeeping staff – whoever you want to call them, THREW AWAY MY EXTRA T-SHIRT without even just bringing all the stuff to the front desk or making an area basically called “LOST AND FOUND”. I just put my T-shirt inside the locker before working out since I had to go to church later in the afternoon. I thought about working out since this gym is close to downtown where my church is located and then I had enough time to workout. 45 minutes later, I asked the staff if they found any BLUE TSHIRT in the locker that I was utilizing and then they said “LET ME SHOW IT TO YOU, WE THREW IT IN THE TRASH BECAUSE OUR BOSS INSTRUCTED US TO THROW ALL ITEMS FOUND IN THE LOCKERS SINCE WE ARE CLEARING THE LOCKERS, SINCE SOME OF THEM ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WE APOLOGIZE. WE ARE CLEARING EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE LOCKERS THAT HAVE A COMBINATION CODE LOCK IN THEM”. The staff member even showed me my T-shirt in the garbage can and asked if I still wanted to take it. I told him, “I’M NOT STUPID. WHY WOULD I TAKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE TRASH? THAT’S WHY IT’S ALREADY CALLED TRASH.” I told that staff member that I wasn’t very happy but at the same time, showed composure and calmness despite what happened. Per gym regulations, no staff member is allowed to remove stuff from the lockers unless they have been kept overnight. Second, there should be a lost and found location or have proper communication and documentation between members and staff members. I asked to speak to the manager of that location, whose name was JEM/JEN. Until now, I haven’t even heard from her regarding my complaint. The staff members said that the manager(s) would reach out to me, however it’s been a month already and I never heard from anybody. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS TOWN AND COUNTRY LOCATION NEAR DOWNTOWN SARASOTA EVER AGAIN. I ended up going to a nearby store just to spend 30 dollars just to have 3 extra T-shirts.
One thing I would also want to share is that the water coming from the fountain/filling station doesn’t taste like purified water. It tastes like WELL-WATER or...
Read moreI always read these reviews, even when I was employed by the franchisee of this location. What all the members should know is the franchisee doesn’t care about your complaints. They are a prime example of corporate greed. The reasons things don’t get fixed is because “they exhausted the budget” and/ or don’t have employees who know how to fix it and they won’t pay to hire experienced companies to fix issues in a timely manner. The reasons things the gym, especially the restroom are filthy, because they don’t have a cleaning crew. They expect Front Desk Staff to clean the entire gym paying them minimum wage. They won’t let managers hire more than 2 people per most of the shifts. The turnover is high because of this. When you all write a review, you get a standard response, not a personal one. They terminated me in November because I refused to keep going in the men’s room to keep cleaning urine from the urinals that were broken, and it took them three days and an inspection and me to complain to get someone out there, and then I was told they weren’t even fixed correctly and it happened again. They still don’t have a Manager and from what I hear, the place has gotten worst! Well I am thriving, hated working for that company and all the corporate managers are fake! I’ve been to other gyms since then for $1 or $2 more a month you can get a cleaner, safer, better staffed and better equipment. Check out Amped and EOS!
UPDATE: I GUESS FIRING A MANAGER WHO CARED MORE THEN THE OWNERS AND CORPORATE MANAGERS WAS A GOOD IDEA BY THE RECENT REVIEWS SINCE NOVEMBER!
JUST SO ALL PATRONS ARE AWARE WHEN I WAS THERE, THEY DONT CARE ABOUT STAFF, MEMBERS OR THE CONDITION OF THE GYM. THEY PAY BARE MINIMUM AND EXPECT ALL EMPLOYEES TO CLEAN ENTIRE GYM, TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE AND FIX EVERYTHING. THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN COBDUCTING STUPID MEETINGS AND MAKING THEIR...
