Before going into much detail, I’d like to preface by saying that my team and I, both together and separately, have taken many different haunted tours across the country over the last several years. For me, the two tours we booked this past weekend were my favorite and most memorable to this day.
We booked both the Lincoln Park Gangsters & Ghouls Ghost Hunt and the Chicago Hauntings Original Ghost Bus Tour for Friday and Saturday of our trip to Chicago. Though some pieces of information and stops along the way were on both tours, it didn’t feel boring or repetitive. It was actually exciting to talk about it again, it was that interesting!
Our guide, Tony, (who we were fortunate enough to have for both nights), was phenomenal. Overall, just an incredibly nice guy with seemingly endless knowledge of the topic and a clear passion for what he does. He even came prepared with paranormal equipment to share with everyone who wanted to participate, and that extra effort doesn’t go unnoticed!
Both experiences were unique and interesting for various reasons. The Lincoln Park ghost hunt was obviously in a more condensed area than the bus tour as it was on foot, but the shocking history of Lincoln Park and the Lincoln Park Zoo’s land as well as getting to see the lit up skyline at night while investigating is something that can’t be beat.
We were thankful to have the bus tour on Saturday because it had rained for a small portion of the night. The driver (who I believe was named Kurt) and Tony continued the tour as planned despite the rain and the sporadic jokes and ad-libs they exchanged back and forth were entertaining. It was also very convenient to have a bathroom on the bus and heat since it was a chillier night.
It was incredible learning so many new things about that side of Chicago’s history!
All in all, we had a wonderful time on both of our tours and highly recommend them! Thank you for contributing to making our weekend...
Read moreThis tour was amazing, Joanne was absolutely awesome! I have not ever taken a ghost tour and have not ever deeply thought about ghosts, but my daughter is very much into true crime and ghosts. I was glad we booked this. I love history, it was one of my majors, and this was full of amazing history. I felt like I really connected with Chicago. I also work and feel strongly that death should not be in vain, and promote public policy to help protect citizens as it is obvious it is needed in a capitalist society. It was amazing and sad to see the death that led to the hauntings, and it was amazing to see the action that was taken to prevent further death and the change that resulted. I do think there should be a memorial for the victims of the theatre fire whose lives were lost. That fire brought about much change. I am writing the city to be a proponent of that and I hope others will as well.
One thing that is strange: I had not looked up any history or anything about the tour, I just booked it. When I went to the meeting place at the Congress Plaza Hotel I walked in with my daughter and immediately felt a chill and felt sick to my stomach. I told my daughter that it was very creepy and I would not ever stay there. I sat in the lobby watching people check in, feeling very uncomfortable, and just told her I could not ever stay the night there, I felt bad for the people checking in. It was very weird, and I wondered why I felt bad for them. I believe firmly in listening to the gut feelings and other things. When we got on the bus and Joanne started with the tour and told the history I was very sad, and in shock.
Whether you believe in ghosts, or even think about it, the tour is awesome. I cannot imagine visiting Chicago...
Read moreI hardly write reviews but I'm writing one because I went on the tour with Deana and I would like to respond to Ursula's comments. If I could give no stars, I would based on the communication that has transpired. We booked the tour in advance to surprise our friend for her bachelorette party. It was our first time in Chicago and the ghost tour was just one of the many activities we had planned. The day before the tour (a Friday) Ursula texted and said that the bus time had been changed to an hour earlier. It was difficult for us to change our plans (the day before) for Saturday as we had lots of other things planned for the bride to be, but we managed to do it. Ursula OFFERED and PROMISED us a refund anyway (even though we didn't cancel) as per the below correspondence and told us not to tell her ex (who gave the tour btw, which wasn't anything special, and hardly talked about HH Holmes!). We thought that was really nice of her to do considering it was tricky to change our itinerary last minute. However, when we got home and tried to ask several times when we would receive the refund, we got no answer. Really poor communication skills! Finally Deana posted the review and Ursula sent her nasty text messages that were completely rude and unprofessional. She even LIED and told us that she sent us the refund which she did not! We have yet to receive our money or any proof of the transfer of the refund. Please do not book this tour! Check Yelp first too--looks like this isn't...
