I've been to Bobar a few times within the last year. The last two times were during the pandemic. Every time, the drinks have been great, as well as the bubble waffles. The store is very cute and has a great atmosphere for hanging out.
However, the service and standards for sanitization/social distancing could use some work. Firstly, the employees I've ordered from are very indifferent with customers and don't make an effort to make customers feel welcome. Drinks are ordered, made, and given, and that's it. No greetings, and once a lack of staying to acknowledge my party's thanks after receiving our drinks. It might be lack of experience, because they seemed pretty young.
Secondly, I did not see much enforcement of social distancing during a visit in July. There is a sign on the door that limits the number of customers inside, a table to pick up drinks outside, and social distancing tape for inside the store. However, no one was enforcing the max number of people in the store (it was an extremely busy day/time of day), therefore rendering the tape useless. There were probably 10 customers in the store at one time, exceeding the mandated number of 5 or 6. My party did the best we could to stay outside in line as long as we could before going inside the store. However, the pick up table was helpful. My most recent visit was during a slower hour. I'm not sure, however, if they have a system for regularly cleaning the chairs and tables in the store after each use. We sat down at a table while waiting that didn't look like it had been wiped down.
Service is super important to me as a customer. Sometimes an employee is having a bad day, or just hasn't had much customer service experience. But when it is consistently an unprofessional and a somewhat unwelcoming attitude, it causes me to rethink buying something from that store. Social distancing and sanitization are especially pertinent at this time as well. If I can't rely on an establishment to enforce these two things, it would be in the best interest of everyone I live with and meet not...
Read moreMy wife and I have had Milk Tea/boba drinks pretty much everywhere that has good milk tea, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Canada, San Diego, LA, New York, city, suburb, perfect and really really bad. Around here, we have tried in Algonquin, Rockford, Glenview, West Dundee and Schaumburg. Most of these were somewhere between adequate and terrible. One of these milk teas was so thick that while we were walking around the mall, I refilled it with water 3 times and it still tasted like sweet milk tea...yuck. I only kept drinking it bc I was curious how far it was going to go. It...was...made...of...powder...not real tea.
Recently, we moved to Roselle from Chicago where we would drive to China town just to get great boba drinks. Still, there is a ceiling of how good it gets around here for some reason. The good Taiwanese places don't want to come to Chicago. So no place in Chicago is going to get a 5 star from us. All this to say, we know our boba drinks.
With that said, we still think the best places to get boba drinks this side of Chicago is Elitea in the Internstional market, Ninja Tea in the discount mall near O'hare and Joyees in Naperville. However, Bobar surprised us. The taste of their drinks and tapioca consistency is right on although we prefer a bit more bitter tea taste. My biggest gripe is their egg pudding. I like my egg pudding more than tapioca. The pudding's consistency is like old rubber that is breaking apart. It is supposed to be like silky tofu. Please fix this and we would not feel the need to drive else where as much as we do. If this is fixed, I would say Bobar is hovering somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars.
This is a 3 star review but it is a postive review. You really have to get out and taste the gross stuff people are trying to pass as...
Read moreWent to Bobar at about 4 pm on 1/14/23 with my African-American young teen daughter. She noticed an eyelash in her cup before sticking the straw through the cup, they seal. We drove back to the establishment I sent her in and had her ask if he could do anything as a courtesy since clearly there is a short black hair in it, and it hasn't been open. I could hear him yelling at "it's only a small hair. I will remake it!" I told her to hand him the phone. He was aggressive with me on the phone and speaking quickly. He made it seem as though my daughter was not telling me what was happening correctly, and he was making her an additional drink. He handed her the phone back, and I told her he will make you another one and tell him what flavor. He thought she hung up, and as she was saying, "Are you going to make me a courtesy drink." I could hear and see him through the window yelling at her again. I went in their and told him never to raise your voice or speak to a child in that manner again, especially my child. He started to go off on me, and I told him I am a customer, you don't ever raise your voice at a customer. You need customer service training. He said I'm just overwhelmed, and I didn't think it was that bad. I told him to get therapy to help him control himself. I requested a full refund and left the drink he remade right there. Needless to say, my daughter was scared and we would never return! It was the worst...
