Extra Space Storage — Local services in Scotts Valley

Scammed me (unintentionally or not) out of $200+

I was originally interested in renting a unit here; so, started the online process of commencing service. During the process, I selected a unit, input payment information, then arrived to a screen with contract terms. In those terms, I learned that all the offerings were month to month and the rate could be changed at any time. I decided not to book and "abandoned my cart."

Despite not having a contract or lease and never authorizing any payment, Extra Space Storage started billing my card. The first time they did, they didn't even send a receipt, just billed the card info I provided $100+.

The next month, I got an email receipt for $80+ and thought "what? I didn't make a reservation with them."

When I called to sort the issue out, the person said that there was no lease agreement (yeah, duh). So, why did they bill me? No clue.

They said they would issue a partial refund (which I still haven't received), but would not refund a $30 "administrative fee." Uh, what? They had just agreed I they didn't have any contract, ergo authorization to charge me.

I love that they offer the first month for those that are just needing a short term lease, as well as the longer term pricing for those that are going to stay for a while! Another amazing detail is they also prorate if needed! Huge plus! Most storage companies unfortunately do not offer this and it is ALL ways a pain.

While my move from LA to NorCaL has not the most calming experience, my experiences with Extra Space Storage have been exceptional! It truly truly makes a difference when the person you’re engaging with is REAL, kind, considerate & friendly. It makes the already grueling task a bit more bearable! I rarely take the time to write reviews, only when I am beyond positively impressed :)

The woman who helped us Zenda, is the manager at this location and I can see why! While everyone I dealt with on the phone was kind, informed and professional, Zenda seriously went the extra mile to make sure everything was situated for us. We needed a bigger space unexpectedly, she accommodated us no problem, she was upbeat, positive throughout the mess that our move turned out to be! Rented here over a year, and the staff has always been helpful and friendly. I recently added another unit, and currently have both a drive-up and a inside unit and would recommend this facility wholeheartedly.

The units are always clean when given to you (after that, it's all on you), there's no bug or rodent infestations, and I've never had water incursion. It's probably not approved, but I put in a lightbulb-to-outlet adapter in my drive-up unit so I could plug in a small shopvac and keep down the dust that my stuff seems to attract (asthma).

I've had people help me with moving things in and out, and the office staff are always watchful and attentive to who is going in and out. It's not just that my drive-up unit is visible from the office windows, but they seem to watch the monitors too and there's cameras pointed down every corridor and at every wall of doors.

There's plentiful carts you can borrow, and the public areas including the bathrooms are clean...
