If you are looking for a dreary and bleak grocery store experience, search no farther. Maybe because I come from the midwest, I'm spoiled into believing that good customer service is customary, but even with sub par standards, I find it challenging to understand how any industry that depends on customer satisfaction for its revenue, can manage to set a bar quite so low. My initial dissapointment lie with the lack of face masks, being that the air was so toxic from the moment I walked in, but I need not search very far for a wealth of more dissapointment, from the underwhelming produce to the astronomical price tags on virtually everything at the store. However, nothing can avail the god awful excuse for employee to customer interaction somehow considered acceptable. I myself visited the store for but a meager cup of joe, believing that such a task would be nigh but impossible to somehow err. And yet, somehow, even with PETES COFFEE, WITH BREWING INSTRUCTIONS ON EVERY LABEL, they managed to make it taste like watered down piss I couldn't get more than a quarter of the way through, wasting 2 dollars and the walk it took to get there. From the sea of gray faces, to being ignored, to employees fumbling over one another to answer the most basic of questions, one would think, neigh, hope that would be the extent of my dissatisfaction with the place, but that doesn't even scrape the surface of how lude, disrespectful, and downright insulting the treatment of my girlfriend was. Lord pray it wasn't due to her being black, being in California of all places, even being the downtrodden, disgustingly gentrified corner of California that Scott's Valley is, but she was followed around the store more than once by the same man who claimed to be stocking shelves with nothing in his hands, and then to top it all off, was refused her groceries at checkout because the cashier was convinced she didn't have the funds necessary to cover them, even though we both have memberships and have frequented the facility. As much as it pains me to say this, I would rather shop at NOB HILL, of all wretched hallows festering away in such sorrowful corners of the Earth, then shop here. I...
Read moreI'm disappointed in the hot bar quality. My parents would occasionally ask me to pick up their favorite hot dishes and drop off on my way home. I came by after 12:30pm on a weekday and found none of what they liked. Instead what was available is comparable to not-so-great cafeteria food.
In addition, there was early 2020 Covid-19 protocols still in effect. Only one entrance into store and customers must walk in opposite direction (to right toward produce) and then around back of store to get to deli and hot bar on far right end following arrows.
Poor employees still wearing masks made me wonder if they had been vaccinated yet.
Employees seemed stretched thin and concerned about moving customers from other registers walking out and not paying. My cashier left in the middle of my transaction to chase a woman she was convinced had not paid. Another employee was yelling across the registers to her outside that the customer had paid.
Customers are required to still queue up all together but then be separated by an employee directing to next available cashier instead of lining up at registers like most grocery stores are doing now.
Perhaps allowing employees who are vaccinated to NOT wear a mask while working so they can breathe. Opening all doors and allowing customers to enter the store side convenient and efficient to their lunch time schedules and to choose their register to queue at would benefit all.
Then the employees in charge of hot food can focus and enjoy making a more...
Read moreScott's valley market, which is the sister store of the Ben lomond market has much of the same qualities that can be expected. When I use this store it is often for their deli so that is what my review is mainly about. They have a self service hot food bar that is always fresh with many choices of different hot foods ranging from bbq, comfort food, to Chinese. They also have a self service salad bar with an immense amount of choices. The only problem here is it is difficult to make a decision because there are so many delicious looking things to chose from.
The service deli also makes sandiwches, cheeseburgers, wraps, and has many other deli items such as deli salads. The deli makes great sandwiches that are worth going out of the way for.
This store has a large selection of cold drinks to chose from ranging from a good selection of beers, to cold sodas and sports drinks.
This store has a wonderful meat department section that features the boars head brand just like Ben lomond market does.
My issue with this store is that it is fairly expensive compared to other grocery stores but it is a family owned and local business, not giving them much room for lower prices. This is definitely a local business that i will continue to support despite the higher prices.
In connection to this store i also suggest the Ben lomond market and the crown cafe in Capitola as they...
