Unfortunately my wife had a horrific experience with Erica. Erica made no effort to fix the issue she clearly caused. Erica was given a photo of a hair style and color that was fairly simple to copy. Although Erica maintains she did everything she was asked to do, but the simple fact is.......Erica didn't. I called Erica on my wife's behalf, because she was concerned that Erica would be confrontational because my wife has been a hair stylist for over 20 years, and we have a bingo! Erica was belligerent and defensive from the moment our conversation began. I mentioned the cut was clearly uneven, and when my wife asked to borrow Erica's scissors to correct the unevenness Erica refused, but still maintains she did nothing wrong, really ? My wife preferred Erica not to work on her hair from that point as she was worried she might intentionally make another mistake. Since Erica charged $465.00 to do the color and cut, you would think Erica would offer to bend over backwards to resolve the problem, but she refused to lift a finger. Erica basically took the money, ran, and could care less about the disappointment and sadness my wife felt. At this point I decided to call the owner and let her know the effect this had on my wife, especially since my wife had brain surgery this year. Erica's attitude and poor performance of social skills caused a tremendous amount of stress for my wife which is why I became involved. The owner said she would speak with Erica, which we all know what that means, right ? In case you didn't know, Desert Blonde requires you to sign a no-fault contract, which is a first that I have seen or heard. Basically, the contract gives Desert Blonde a way out of any responsibility when a customer complains or is unhappy. They do however offer in the contract to "make every effort to satisfy the customer, and remedy the problem". I can honestly say that after speaking with Erica and the owner, this was never offered, they just don't care. Erica will probably see this post and do everything in her power to discredit what I am saying so she can maintain a clean reputation, which I get. I urge you to consider this, I have no reason to lie, we never asked for our money back, and all we wanted was a little TLC to fix my wife's hair. I caution you when choosing Desert Blonde Salon, specifically ERICA. I don't make it a habit to criticize people, especially if they put forth some sort of effort to be kind, clearly that was not the case here. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because the review would not allow me to choose NONE. I think we all need to look out for one another, so, look out, run !
Part 2, Answer to OWNERS post.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. The owner, Amy, is the one who responsed to my post. Amy wasn't even present when this process was going on, Amy was nowhere in site, so how can she even have an opinion? Amy wrote her reponse as if she was there, she wasn't, just a flat out lie. The fact remains, Desert Blonde Salon would like to put all the blame on my wife, however, this is simply not true. You also said my wife dictated the whole service every step of the way?? She brought in a picture, showed it to Erica, Erica immediately talked her out of the bangs that were in the picture, then talked my wife into putting bleach on her scalp, which she does not normally do, to achieve her blonde color. Which resulted in a chemical scalp burn. As far as the toner goes, both her and Erica discussed colors to use. Erica also does not wish to admit why my wife asked to borrow the scissors. Allow me to answer that, because she screwed up the cut, 2 different lengths on each side ! If you followed my wife's dictation of what to do, why did she ask for the scissors to correct it ? Oh I forgot Amy, you weren't even there ! This is just a simple case of an owner trying to cover their employees tracks. I could go on and on and on, but I think I made my point. This is just a POOR SERVICE & OVERPRICED salon. Look Elsewhere, Deceitful,...
Read moreTotally stoked about this salon! I have been going here for about a year and they have continued to work some serious magic on my hair. I went from super long dead blonde hair to a short healthy natural blonde with some highlights. I absolutely love it. it looks so beautiful and definitely was a confidence booster.
I just recently decided to go back to long hair and decided to try out extensions. And let me tell you I was shocked how seamless the blend from a bob to 20" long extensions was. They were extremely comfortable and you could not tell at all that I had a bob previously. The hair was super high quality and is easy to curl, style and very easy to hide when I do updos. She gave me so many tips on different cute hairstyles and told me exactly how to take care of them. She also added a ton of different shades of blonde which I LOVED because it looks so demential which was exactly what I was going for. Overall, i am extremely impressed and love that they are extremely thorough with their consultations. Every single stylist i've seen here has given me exactly what I've wanted and exceeded my expectations!
The vibe of the salon is so friendly, they asked me if I wanted cold brew or kombucha that they have on tap which I thought was really cool bc I’ve never seen that at a salon. They had good snacks and played good music. The artist really know their stuff you can tell they are experienced and confident in their service and they gave me exactly want I wanted which is rare in my opinion. Overall, I am extremely satisfied. Walked out feeling like a million bucks, five stars, hands down. This salon is the spot, is definitely my...
Read moreI’ve been going to this salon for a while and have always loved their color work. But after my last visit, I won’t be back.
I had to cancel my original appointment for an extension move-up and full foil because my flight got cancelled (I live in LA, was flying in from NY). They waived the cancellation fee (which I appreciated) and rebooked me with a junior stylist for just the extension work while I was in town. I was planning to wait for someone more experienced for color, ideally Emily (who I had been working with).
But when I got there, the vibe was off. My usual stylist completely ignored me, and the junior stylist was pretty standoffish when I tried to talk about my hair situation after vacation (brassiness, etc). I know I was only booked for the move-up, but it felt rushed and dismissive - especially since I’ve spent thousands at this place just in the past 6 months.
They charged me $200 for 45 minutes of work that my new stylist in Manhattan Beach (who’s much more experienced and charges significantly less) said was poorly done. The quality of the hair extensions also feels off, but maybe I got a bad batch. Regardless, pretty disappointing when you’ve been loyal and it doesn’t seem to matter. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I am genuinely bummed given the money I've spent here.
TL;DR - good color work, but inconsistent extension service, not great customer care, and overall a bit overpriced (even compared to LA, which honestly...
