I took my first yoga class as a college student at ASU in 1976. I am now in my late 60ās and I have had a lifelong yoga practice. Iāve taken every type of yoga in locations all over the country as part of my path. I have become disheartened in recent years trying to find a blissful studio and instead running into studios that have loud, competitive, fast, physical exertion for the sake of āsweating it outā in swamplike temperatures. Iāve mourned the seeming loss of the yoga I first learned all those years ago. I recently tried Namaste Yoga in Scottsdale and I can say the Divine One saved the best for last. Every Yogi knows our journey is in balancing āeffort and surrender.ā At my age surrender looks like letting go of trying to outdo the 30-year-old on the mat next to me. Instead, it means surrendering into the sage I am poised to be as a result of what Yoga has given me all these years. This studio is warm, inviting, and beautiful. Their classes are mindful, with beautiful surroundings projected on the walls. I love Yin and Water Flow in particular. In this morningās class Charles gave us a prompt that revolutionized my chaturanga after all these years. The gentler heat is luscious on my moving body, and not oppressive. There are also classes with more heat, and more vigorous flows. I might try one of those now and again to keep things fresh especially because they do a continuous series to culminate in a āpeak pose.ā I can tell already my form will become more elegant. The owner Ashley is a beautiful soul and she spent a lot of time giving me a tour, hearing my yoga story and welcoming me to the studio. The manager Nikki is terrific and Dylan who is often at the desk is wonderful! The energy, the additional workshops, the teachers, and the dedication to the fullness of yoga instead of cramming people in and out like sweaty sardines are what I have yearned for. Even a beginner will feel comfortable. I cannot recommend this studio enough, to Yogis...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis past week I had the pleasure of practicing at our newest yoga studio in North Scottsdale, Namaste Yoga. I have now been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching nearly as long. In that time I have tried nearly every type/style and environment. I will say there are benefits and positives to nearly all that I have experienced but now at 53 I am definitely more discerning about the practice, the teacher and the place where I spend my time and my money.
Lately, my body has been calling out for sweat and strength building. I personally love hot yoga for this however I have been challenged to find a place that I wanted to call home for my own personal practice. Iām thrilled to say I have found what I was looking for at Namaste!
Firstly, I have to say it is simply a beautiful space and they have this incredible cinematic wall that helps to create a one of a kind yoga experience. I must admit I was a little hesitant because I donāt always resonate with the styles of hot yoga that are so popular. For me, they are too fast and regimented. I prefer to have a little freedom in my practice and space to breathe. I also donāt love it when the room is 120 š„µ Namaste has found a beautiful balance with their seasonal flow practices and a āhot yogaā experience that resonates perfectly for me.
I also have to share that I just LOVE the owner Ashley and the community that she is building. I'm excited to say that I have found my new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNew fave yoga studio! I feel spoiled here. If you like a nice yoga session thatāll leave your muscles a whole lot stretched and some soreness the next day so you know you got a good session in, this place is for you.
The scenic screen is amazing and I love peeking at it anytime I look that direction during practices. Thereās a difference scene every class!
Instructors have all been GREAT Iāve tried three now (Savanah, Julie, Nicki) and are great at leading classes while making sure we have postures correct and giving adjustments that make a big difference. The new pilates class is AMAZING! I always have that great sore feeling the next day and it's hard but great!
I always grab a tea right after class and their little refreshment station for before or after classes is such a nice touch. I need to find time to sit on their amazing deck too.
I also treated myself to a couple clothing items in their little shop and Iām super impressed with the quality. I already want another color in a long sleeve top and Iāll def be purchasing more. They also had sage which I snagged because who doesnāt love that.
Iāve felt so welcomed since I messaged them on instagram asking a million questions about them opening and whether the rooms would get hot enough for me. They will! And there are different class options depending on the kind of workout you want.
Looking forward to coming multiple times a week....
