Shawnee Civic Centre — Local services in Shawnee

This is a nice location for small events such as business meetings, kids parties, anniversaries, weddings and dances. It's not a huge building, but they do offer a variety of reasonably priced meeting rooms and a nice gym. The downstairs area (gym) has a full kitchen should you wish to cook at your event.

During the day it's a common hangout for people wanting to walk laps in the gym or play some basketball. The city frequently offers educational and enrichment classes here too which can be found in the bi-annual catalog that is mailed to city residents (or you can pick one up at the Civic Center)

The place is well lit inside and out with adequate parking. There is also a nice patio area outside the gym. The building itself is in a convenient location, but it's not signed well and can be hard to spot if you don't know where it is. Coming down Johnson Drive you really need to look for the driveway up the hill or you'll miss it. Coming in off the Pflumm Road entrance will lead you past the pool directly to the building.

The Civic Center is located across the parking from the Johnson County Library, or on the west side...

The women working in the Civic Center office are completely useless. We called twice in one day to make sure certain rooms were still available to rent for my baby shower. After confirming, we had to wait until the next day to actually reserve the rooms because you have to do it in person during the super convenient hours of 8 am to 5 pm. I had to take off work early to make sure I got there before 5 pm. Upon arriving 15 or 20 minutes before 5 pm (which should be plenty of time to book a room!), the office was already closed. One of the women at the front desk went ahead and started booking the room for me. After processing my payment, she then remembered to check some antiquated book in which they apparently track other room reservations in. All of the rooms in the entire Civic center appeared to be booked for a class. I'm not sure why they couldn't enter this in the computer system or why they didn't check their stupid book when we called TWICE. She then complained about having to refund my money and that I should have gotten there before 5 pm. I will not be using the Shawnee Civic Center for any events...

I am a Zumba Instructor from Ohio. When I travel, I often attend Zumba classes. I visited Geniya Khakalova’s class twice while I was in town. She is one of the better Zumba instructors I have had the pleasure of going to. She stays true to the Zumba format and her playlist is a nice mix of world rhythms. She is engaging with her class and is easy to follow. I love that you can drop in to her class for a daily rate. The facilities were clean, and the staff was friendly. I have also dropped into Zumba classes at Lenexa Rec, Olathe Community Center and many Y’s. Geniya is by far the best instructor I have attended...
