I went to Garrett's a few months ago with a friend, she and I had a great time. I revisited Garrett's last Sunday to watch the Chiefs game, it was totally different. My first clue that things weren't going to be the same, was when I entered. I felt like E. F. HUTTON, everyone stopped talking when I walked in. I quickly found myself a table and settled in for the game. I finally got a pitcher of beer, no problem, they were packed and very busy. Around halftime, I mistakenly ordered the hot wings. After eating only two, I realized that I was not going to be able to eat them, because they were far too hot for me. I once again had to grab this tattooed down waitress that had not bothered to check back with me to see if I needed anything else. I was attempting to explain that I would like to place another order for BBQ wings, but this waitress just walks off. I sit there feeling disrespected, and totally ignored. Finally realizing that she was not returning, I gathered my belongings, along with the hot wings that I couldn't eat, and strolled to the side bar, where I stood for an additional 5-7 minutes before being acknowledged. Attempting to explain again about the order, and that I had no problem paying for the hot wings, I just wanted an order of BBQ wings. Now, I am starting to take this personal, because this same prejudice waitress tells me she would have taken care of my order, had I not stormed out. Really, I left my seat once to go to the bathroom, and twice to go out to smoke. For those of you that's thinking that I should have spoken to the manager, I did one better, I spoke with the owner. The owner was apologetic, and stated how busy they were. I understand being busy, but that is not, and cannot be an excuse for prejudice. So my suggestion for a individual of color that wish to visit Garrett's, if it's busy, you may want to go...
Read moreI usually order Garrett's through Postmates. They have one of the best value steak meals in the city (16 oz Ribeye + loaded baked potato + salad) and the steaks are always cooked perfectly. It's so good that I rarely order anything else.
This was my first time ordering pickup and there was a bit of a mix-up. I arrived, picked up my order, drove home, and it was the wrong order. They had accidentally written the wrong name on the bag for the food that was inside. Another person picked up my actual order before I got there. At first, I was frustrated because I was hungry, but after calling the girl I talked to reassured me that everything would be taken care of and to just give them a few minutes to look into the situation. They called me back a little bit later and said the person who originally picked up my order brought it back and the guy said I could swing by to pick it up, or they could deliver it at no charge. Since I was already settled in I asked to have it delivered.
It took longer than expected for him to drop it off, but he told me he went ahead and recooked everything and he apologized several times. Every member of Garrett's was very professional and courteous during this whole ordeal and I appreciated that they went out of their way to accommodate me. No place is perfect and you really find out how well run an establishment is when they are not. Garrett's absolutely earned my continued support by fixing my meal as painlessly as possible and everything tasted...
Read moreThere were 2 of us that decided to try out the restaurant for dinner. The place was spacious with a designated bar area. The space had great lighting and 2 levels. They have 'nightly' activity specials; that night happened to be poker night; which started at 7:00pm. We arrived around 6:00pm and there didn't seem to be anyone eating dinner which made us wonder if they were serving dinner, especially since no one welcomed us or directed us to a table and we definitely stood out as the other individuals in the establishment were all at the bar. We decided to take a seat at a booth to see what would happen. Eventually someone brought us menus. Not long after we got drinks and placed our orders. We ordered a pork tenderloin with onion rings and prime rib with potatoes and beans. There was 1 individual acting as a waiter. The food was delivered timely and was tasty. The place filled up shortly before 7:00pm with poker players who ordered drinks and food; which caused us the to think the waiter forgot about the carrot cake he talked us into. He did finally deliver the cake. We waited a while for the bill and eventually got up and asked the bartender if we could pay there. The server did a great job all things considered; the food was good. If you like activities, good food and have a lot of time, you'll enjoy this place. If you're short on time, you might consider...
