Verizon — Local services in Sheldon

Decent Service, But Better Options Available for Home Internet I've been using Verizon services in the Sheldon area and wanted to share my experience, particularly for those looking at home internet options.

Home Internet - Good, But Not the Best: Verizon's LTE Home Internet is a significant improvement over T-Mobile, delivering consistent 10Mbps up and down with latency in the 60-100ms range. While this is usable for video calls and streaming, I'd still strongly recommend checking out CenturyLink first for home internet needs. CenturyLink typically offers better speeds and more reliable service for home internet in this area.

Home Connect Phone - Excellent Value: One service that really stands out is Verizon's "Home Connect" landline alternative. At around $20 per month, it's incredibly reliable and by far the best traditional home phone option available here. It beats both CenturyLink and Premier Communication's home phone services in terms of reliability and value. If you need a home phone, this is definitely the way to go.

Mobile Coverage - Generally Good with Some Dead Spots: Verizon's mobile coverage around Sheldon is solid and better than competitors. However, there are consistent problem areas: between Sheldon and Spirit Lake you'll get slow data (though calls stay connected), and you'll drop calls reliably between Estherville and Superior and when going through Peterson.

Bottom Line: For home internet, check CenturyLink first. For home phone service, Verizon Home Connect is unbeatable. Mobile service is generally reliable but has predictable dead zones on certain routes.

Recently had a family member taken advanage of at this store.

This family member is not authorized to make changes on the Verizon account. When they came to this store in Sheldon, the team member bypassed this field to sell my family member a new iPhone at full cost. Turns out the store was running a promotion at the time, buy a new iPhone get a free apple watch. So you would thing this family member would have gotten a new apple watch, but no. The store sold a used apple watch to my family member, rather than giving them a free apple watch to make MORE MONEY and TAKE ADVANTAGE of this very innocent family member.

We took this family member to our Verizon store, and they showed us how they would have bypassed the system and have been told this person wasn't authorized to make changes. Turns out, this family member was eligible for a free upgrade to their phone, so they didn't even need to buy one.

Shame on you Sheldon Verizon. Your store is no better than a bunch of filthy scammers. Targeting vulnerable populations. It is sickening. It is something for this to happen by someone outside a community like Sheldon but to do this to a loyal community member is despicable.
