If I could, I wouldn't give this location any stars. Former employee. To be completely honest, this location has no identity. The goal is to create a motivated safe haven atmosphere for members and employees. Professionally, this location has no direction. I was employed with them roughly for 7 months. I started off appreciating the job cause it was different compared to my previous experiences with retail. In result, I took my role with this location to heart if you ask me too much actually where I come in to work, do my job head down and get to work cause it was important to me. After two to three months in, the tide changed with this location after a recent manager change. Really didn't take note of the impact it could have on team and most importantly the gym until the location headed into of peak season. I am a team player, most of the time too much of a team player. Within my 7 months there, I covered nearly a dozen undesignated shifts which included weekend mornings, weekend nights, and over night shifts, and last minute call out texts 2 hours before the gym closes to protect the GM's ass cause he don't want to come in (Note: I was designated as weekday evening employee PT). In my prospective I was being a team player and I'm pretty much getting the reward from my efforts as a team member. WRONG! Throughout peak season for this location, management has let go of a lot of people and railroad some people as well. It didn't worry me cause I didn't think it would impact me negatively. WRONG! At one point coming out of peak season, we probably only had seven or eight employees on staff (2/3 of teammates were overly talkative, lazy and/or unkept when it comes to gym and it's presentation). So going through the whole peak season and I'm thinking my responsibilities are going to increase, maybe pay raise and/or promotion. Wrong! From June to October, my hours were cutted with no explanation or reasoning from 22 hours a week to 4 hours. Within that period of time, it costed me more money to go to work than it was making at work. When I came in for any 4-Hour shift, I was given between 8-hour to all day type of tasks routinely every week which leads me to think that the handful of staff members that were getting full time hours or good amount of part-time hours were lazy unkept individuals that didn't care about the gym (mildew/mold showers, hazardous toilets, unclean equipment, etc). I became disgruntled at this point. I gave the new management one month to fix it. I voiced my concerns and ask critical questions. End result, I have been doing 4 hours shifts and other people work for the remaining of my time. Now we are here! I'm glad to say quitting yesterday was the best feeling cause I found peace in my decision during my breakpoint. If you're still reading this, find another gym to workout or work at cause Planet Fitness isn't it; especially this location!

The pricing is hard to beat. So that alone get it most of its stars. Very busy gym though. Even at odd hrs there's likely at least a dozen or so people. Busiest is between 3pm and 7pm. You will likely be waiting for equipment during those hours. Even treadmills, potentially. But they do have plenty of equipment outside of treadmills. Relatively clean looking and well kept gym. Seems newish at the time of my writing. Staff is kind, though you'll see a new set of employees damn near weekly. Yes, the Smith machines have safety locks unfortunately.

In October I went to the gym to cancel my membership and left under the impression that everything was taken care of. This month I was charged for a membership that I thought was canceled. I called the gym and they told me my account was frozen instead of canceled like I requested. They also told me they couldn’t refund me my money and that I had to come in to cancel it AGAIN. I went to the gym and explained the situation to a staff member who canceled it and gave me the number to customer service for a refund. As he was sorting things out the original person who handled my account which was a manager name Sharon came up to the Counter. The employee who was helping me explained the situation to her and her response was ā€œyou said all that and I don’t know what your question isā€ with an attitude. I explained to her that I came into to cancel my membership last month and she confirmed that my account was closed but it was rather frozen and I was charged for this month. She denied that she was the one who worked on my account as if I had no recollection of our conversation. She kept saying she didn’t know who’s initials were signed to the account. At this point I’m standing there dumfounded because I know who I spoke to and it was only me and her at the counter that day. I tried to remain calm while I had her refusing to take accountability and instead make me look like a liar. I got frustrated and told her that I did not speak to a ghost, I spoke to her and all she had to do was take accountability. I told her we all make mistakes and all she had to say was that she screwed up. I’m a pretty understanding person as long as a person is willing to take Accountability. She then says to me ā€œdon’t call me I liar, I didn’t call you a liarā€. At this point I’m wondering why I’m even going back and forth with her because she was clearly wrong and too immature to take accountability for her screw up. As things got louder another employee name Jordan walked over and tried to kick me out. He shifted the blame and made it seem like I was antagonizing them when it was the other way around. I was patient from the moment I walked in , considering the Situation and I didn’t expect to be treated this way. I told him he was sadly mistaken if he thought he was gonna kick me out because their manager didn’t wanna take accountability for her screw up. I told him to call the police if he wanted me to leave because I definitely wanted to explain what was going on. He refused to do so. I waited as the first employee finished working on my account as the other two continues to make a scene by rudely trying to kick me out for their screw up. They were disrespectful and unapologetic and tried to use the ā€œangry black womanā€ card to cover their screw up. Yes the manager is a black woman but clearly skin folk and always kin folks. I didn’t appreciate how I was treated seeing as though I have spent my hard earned money with them for two years. And was even charged AFTER I ended things. I was embarrassed at how they chose to handle the Situation. Hopefully this...

I began working out at this specific location on a guest pass and I’ll admit, out of all the gyms I’ve been a member of, this has been my favorite.

Let’s start with the cons because there is minimal and we need to save the best for last. No platform or Olympic bar/plates. Barbells only go up to 60lbs. Equipment will go out of order frequently but it is normally fixed within 24hrs. No kid zone but that is a franchise thing not this specific location. My personal opinion is that the free weight section is very small especially at certain times (4/5 people and you are almost inside each other’s bubble).

Now let’s hit on the positives! The facility is always clean (I can’t vouch for the men’s locker room), the trash is never more than half full, and cleaning supplies is always available. There is a plethora of cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, stairs, and row machines). The employees are great. They are always in a good mood, walking around to ensure things are in place, and willing to help someone at the drop of a hat. The atmosphere is unique. You have all types of people working to better themselves. Young, middle aged, elderly. All ethnicities and demographics. The best part being, everyone is rooting for each other. Yes you have your rotten tomatoes every now and then; but for the most part, it’s all a support system. 30 minute circuit area Abs & stretching area (nice little area if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle). Locker room with plenty of lockers, showers, dressing areas, and facilities.

I do feel the need to give a shout out specifically to one person that I have watched since day one. This employee, Bree, is absolutely incredible!! She goes above and beyond in everything she does. From working the front desk, to cleaning equipment, to replacing weights others sadly have left, to making sure she greets everyone as they walk in with a smile & departs for their day! One thing I’ve noticed is she gets to know her members; she remembers little things about them which makes you feel more than just a person come in and out the door. Bree is going to go far in her career and journey! Planet Fitness West End has a keeper with her & I hope they recognize how special and...
