Delta College Slidell — Local services in Slidell

So I should have done more research, read the fine print & contained my excitement before agreeing to receive education here. While the teachers are phenomenal, compassionate, & friendly educators, I do not have very many nice things to say. I chose the Medical Office Health Information Technician Program which was passed off as Medical Billing & Coding. I was told many times I'd be receiving a certificate for billing & coding by the admitting advisor(No need to say her name, she knows who she is, what she said & how she tried to deflect when confronted by the director).This was an absolute lie. The program is for an administrative assistant -CMAA. You certify through NHA (not as nationally recognized as the AHIMA or AAPC). You will not get offered the pay you expect for billing & coding- CPC because you will get CMAA pay(You can get more at Walmart, no certification & save over 14k whether it's your money or grants).The CPC on the AAPC website is 1/3 the price. Not to mention how your taxes get messed up if you receive grants. You may end up owing or falling into a bracket you're nomally not in. "Mandatory" orientation was a joke. I missed my planned family vacation (might be our last)for stretching exercises, downloads that were "required" before hand, and some paperwork. After starting school, I was told it's an umbrella certification everytime I brought it up. It was like nobody knew the true certification I was getting. You still have to pay even if you decide to drop out, so I stuck it out. They send you on to your externsite AFTER all the schooling courses are complete. You do not graduate till 210 volunteer hours are given to a clinic. You may not get certified till after that & graduation could be months afterwards as well. Once you get placed you might as well accept the job, if offered, because it's basically impossible to find work otherwise. The certification is worthless as well as being on the President's List. It doesn't help you in anyway (Mind you, I couldn't even get a job as an administrative assistant at the actual school that taught me "what I needed". I just can't imagine why).I spoke with the director and he seemed to want to help but was obviously unsuccessful. I was told my 20 years experience at 1 job didn't look as good, these days. It blew my mind but hey ok. The extern administrator doesn't like smokers so never step foot near her after your smoke break or you'll feel like a target for unwanted and unnecessary hate. She was the only one who could smell it. No, I was not a perfect student. Yes, I smoke & yes, I had fingernails with inappropriate colors at times. BUT I also worked extremely hard & was the top of my class. I don't understand what typing has to do with fingernails as you do not touch the patients. Now move on to graduation, you pay 50 bucks to get a cap & gown. Fine, chunk out even more money. On the day I picked up my cap & gown, they had the audacity to ask me to give the student address knowing my experience was terrible. I agreed & tried to be a good sport. I was to talk about the school as a whole, but not about my own personal experience. I had a few days to come up with a speech, which ended up falling short because I truly had nothing nice to say so it was short but kind. Not good enough. I said maybe someone else would be better then. I sat on it for a few hours & wrote up an amazing speech. I sent it over saying I do what I promise, here's a new speech but if you had to give it to someone else I understand. I just wanted to fulfill my promises unlike they had. They tell me they found someone else & it was left at that. Come the day of the graduation, when it came time for the student access, my replacement read my speech basically word for word. I know because she used specific words I used & oh yeah, I flat out asked her if they gave her that speech or if she wrote it herself. She said they sent it to her!! Pretty sure that's plagiarism, but so be it. I have no respect for anyone there except the teachers. They target individuals looking to start...

Wife had a great experience while attending but the placement assistance was extremely lacking. Not to mention she was told from the beginning that if she went for Medical asst and later decided to go for LPN that classes would transfer within the college. Well they don't. She has to take the whole LPN course. Crappy way to help students. This private college is in it for the money and...

I had an amazing experience at Delta! The instructors were truly incredible especially Mrs. Tiffany and Mrs. White and Mrs Chauvin who went above and beyond to support me I even got a job before I got certified thanks to Mrs Cody the career advisor there 🤗 I'm very grateful for the foundation this program gave me....
