Food Lion — Local services in Smyrna

I went to our local Food Lion in Smyrna to pick up a three specific items that were out of stock at another supermarket chain. Although this store is basically just down the street from us, I'd never really shopped here before. The store was moderately busy. My first impression was that the store seemed like it hadn't been updated in a while and could use a renovation. The overall impression was that this store catered primarily to those looking for inexpensive items vs. quality items, and that they didn't spend much money on making the store bright and appealing, like say a Publix.

I started looking for my three items, and I noticed as I wandered up and down the aisles that there were a number of shelves that had empty sections that obviously hadn't been restocked in a while. I found that the layout of the store was a bit odd and not really conducive to finding things quickly. The signs over the aisles were of little help in finding the Wickles Pickles or the Swanson chicken broth. I did eventually find all 3 items, however, after about 3 times going up and down almost every aisle. Not once did I bump into a store employee that I might have asked where my items were located. I used a cashiered lane - didn't really see any self-checkout options available - and checkout was quick, easy and friendly.

I gave it 3 stars because, although there were no major hiccups, there was also nothing that really recommended this store to me and made me want to come back there, other than the fact that it's close by. It was a very middle-of-the-road experience in an older, run-of-the-mill...

Do NOT buy gift cards. I’m a new mom and was given a Food Lion gift card to assist in grocery delivery as my husband usually has the car. After spending an hour trying to get the gift card to work online I called the store. They spent 30 minutes trying to help me and they couldn’t figure it out either. They suggested I call customer service. The gift card phone number only gave me an automated system. I looked up another number online and was told by customer service they didn’t know either and transferred me to gift cards. Gift cards didn’t know either and transferred me to “to go” support who FINALLY told me you can’t use gift cards online. I spent over 2 hours trying to get a simple answer NONE of the employees knew. Nowhere on the gift card or in the store or online does it say you can’t use online. The employees don’t even know. Now I have a gift card, with the receipt from the store it was purchased at, that I can’t use. And I dealt with all this with a crying baby in my arms....

Worst Food Lion experience ever! They had a very poor and limited selection. . I asked an employee to see if they for a particular item . The employee didn’t know and he searched around the store for 10 minutes to find someone . Just for him he finally tell me that they might have some on the back but refused to go on the back to see. Walked the store I see many employees not wearing masks. The staff is don’t follow social distancing regulations! On top of that I told the cashier that the price for an item is 326 which was labeled on the item. She has the nerve to argue back that it just rings up that way and had an issue on changing the price. I won’t be back! Spend your money...
