I was admitted and am now on my 8th day here. Same floor Same room. If I was surprised by the level of care by the ER staff, I am continuously blown away by the nursing and doctor staff on the orthopedic floor I'm on. I have never seen such a well trained, caring, supportive, not to mention extremely knowledgeable team as I've seen with the nursing & CCT staff on this floor. As for every staff member I've encountered here who has treated me as if I was the only patient on this floor. The exceptional level of care shown by them, their willingness to always take whatever extra step is needed to put you at ease with your medical concern and emotional needs even, Their knowledge of their job/skill is just as extraordinary as their level of genuine care. In these 8 days I have witnessed some patients treat these people just terribly, like verbal punching bags for no other reason than to just abuse the very people trying to save them. But what's even more amazing is how well mannered and disciplined the staff is to not even give off a hint that it's being taken personal because it rolls right off them like true professionals, and they still give their max effort to comfort that abusive patient not a second thought. The level of care each individual member has given me is just beyond anything I have ever seen or could have expected. The doctors & the shift supervisors who have sat with me over the last week have given me their genuine time, concern and opinion instead of just rushing back out the door to knock the next patient off their list. The detail during shift change when nursing staff are doing their rounds and bringing the next nursing shift up to speed with pinpoint accuracy is just short of amazing, and then making sure you are included in the discussion makes you feel like you are all on the same team working to fix you. The detail in the 4 to 8 shift reports a day written by them and each report at least (5 pages mind you no less) is so well written about me and what I spoke on that It just re-enforces for me the fact that they truly are completely listening to you, and are understanding of your need. All of whom I would love to mention individually by name. However It would be remiss of me to not mention this one nurse whom I spent the most time with. First, the RN named Liz. This is the type of caregiver/employee and person who by nature goes above and beyond without a second thought. This is a nurse any hospital with half a brain would fight tooth and nail to either obtain as an employee or keep on their staff list. The only word I can use when describing her skill is just wow. She takes great pride and care in her job just like the others, Liz has her whole heart in it, and she really knows her stuff and has this ability to just relate to you on a level so easily that she naturally treats you as such an equal in regards to your care. I have never felt judged by her nor anyone else here for that matter but due to the issues I'm experiencing it's a lot for a person to remain strong when they feel useless due to what's going on with their bodies. But why I highlight Liz specifically is because this past saturday night my condition suddenly worsened rapidly and I was pretty much helpless to fix a thing of it on my own. I was in desperate need of immediate help. Without a single hair out of place or a misstep taken by her, not a hint of confusion or panic by her, Liz sprung into action, and methodically carried out what she needed to in order to basically save my butt that night. The level of attention to check on me throughout her entire shift esp after that issue occurred by making sure all my meds got delivered on time making decision calls on her own on what I needed without a shred of fear means I am in the safest place possible i could be to begin my recovery to soon walk out of here. If I ever am in need of medical assistance like this again there is no doubt in my mind that I will return here. I urge all my friends and family in the area not bother trying the rest and start...
Read moreIf you ever thought about self harm, talk to your family because the hospital doesn’t help! December 20th 2024, I was admitted to 5 west for behavioral health, let me start off by saying the crisis unit is better than this floor. You have people dealing with different individual problems and shove them onto 1 unit and treat them all the same. People who break the law have better privileges than this place. They didn't honor my dietary restrictions so the whole 4 days I was there I was practically starving and being shoved with meds so my stomach was hurting and bloated. The “ Doctors “ have no idea what’s going on. They wake you up out your sleep maybe 7 or 8 AM and talk to you for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes frame you’ve been diagnosed and we’re already talking treatment plans then you don’t ever see the doctor again. Until maybe a day or two later. I was very adamant on leaving and had my family pressuring them the allow me to leave. If you’re battling depression or anxiety, just stay home with your loved ones because the only options you have in this place is to sit in your room and cry because your lonely, sit in the “ multi-purpose “ room and hope for your turn to put on a movie, or walk up and down the “ U “ shaped hallway that’ll make you more insane than you already are. I tried to remain as respectful and calm, but this floor is a joke and Mockery or mental health and other problems. You have a 10 minutes phone call limit and 2 phone calls per shift, phone officially off at 10pm and TV off at 11pm. 1 visitor a day for 1 hour. Sounds more like jail if you ask me. The whole system is designed to control people, monitoring how long the patients are on the phone, can’t have outside food if someone decided to bring it during visit, can’t even carry a mini jar of Vaseline. If you’re already depressed and feeling alone how is taking everything away and enforcing all these rules going to help ? Told the doctor bipolar-depression is something genetic in my family, she basically told me to not focus on that right now but to focus on the diagnosis she gave me .. what sense does that even make ? When you only spoke with me for 10 minutes. Holidays around the corner mean no staff for is inconsiderate and unfair for those that are in there stuck waiting for the doctor that’s never around to say okay you’re cleared to go home. I’m disappointed in what I’ve seen here honestly. They have schedules posted on the wall, giving you an hourly break down of the day, group meetings/sessions are something that’s supposed to happen everyday. I was there 4 days and only seen group twice. When I expressed my concerns the doctor who is never already tried to deny my accusations however a tech stepped in and corrected the doctor, stating I was correct. All you see throughout the day are nurses and techs. They handled everything. I would like you shoutout a couple of people that range from nurse and techs because they were truly genuine people. Nurses include Scott, Yelena, Shameemah, and Richard. My Techs, Sterlyn, Phil, and Ty ( Tyesha ). Thank you for making everything else miserable. To the secretary, Maryland your attitude is disgusting and you’re in the wrong field. You rather argue with patients about talking on the phone with loved ones to imply your control because there are “ rules “. Seriously grow up, I’d understand if someone was complaining but I was literally the only person in the hallway then later to overhear you tell nurses “ someone get their patient, whatever her name is “ is totally disrespectful and unprofessional. You’re talking about a person not an object. Not to mention everybody knows your attitude is disgusting because all you have to do is describe your physical description along with the attitude and you get the same answer, which is you. I’d never...
Read moreRobert wood Johnson hospital in Somerville NJ is probably the worst hospital in NJ. If you have an emergency or need to get a test DO NOT USE THIS HOSPITAL. Most of the staff are incompetent and no one has been trained properly. I have had really bad experiences there and people who live around share the same opinion as I do. You would think that the people who work at the hospital dont only work there to make a pay check but also because they like to help other people. Well, most of them dont, they are in the wrong field or pick the wrong career. They dont care for your health at all and do not treat you with consideration and have no respect of your time. Here is my last experience: I went there yesterday for a CT scan and my total time in there was 5 hours when you go to a regular radiology clinic you dont expend longer than 30 to 45 min. I got there at 11am, went to the front desk, showed them my prescription for the test and they made me sign an attendance sheet. my appointment was at 11:30am but I like to get to my appointments with extra time. I had premedicated myself from the night before due to allergy reaction to iv contrast plus I drank the 2 bottles of barium as they told me 2 hours prior the test. After waiting for about a hour I got a little concerned that the medicine and barium that I took was running out of my system so I went to the front desk and explained to the staff my concerns and asked them to help me to get the scan done. They seem not to be concerned about and asked me to go back to the waiting room until they call my name. Around 1pm I went back again and asked them if they were going to call me any time soon, they said that they were having an emergency inside with some of the equipment. I found it weird. You would think that the hospital has more than one machine to perform those test. Anyway I waited another half hour then I went back to the front desk and told them that I was leaving I had decided not to wait anymore and also I was thinking that the medicine I took for the allergies was not going to be effective any longer since I took my last dose at 9am and it was almost 2pm. One of the staff told me that I was gonna be called next. They called my name at 1:45pm and the person who took me inside apologized for the problems that the front desk employees were having with the system. I was shocked because the front staff had told me that the problem was inside where the equipment area is. I guess the play the game to blame one another as an excuse for not to help the patients on time. Anyway I just needed to get this done and get out of there but as soon as they injected the iodine injection I got a several allergy reaction and had to remind at the hospital for 2 more hours because my blood pressure was down, I had hives, swollen lips and throat and I was shaking afraid for my life and all because of their negligence I got this complication. Fortunately there were a couple of nurses and a doctor who helped get through this and checked on me for about an hour but other than those three people no one there cares. They are just there killing time to get a pay check at the end of the week. Today, one day later I still dont feel good I have blood in my urine my back hurts and I really feel off. I could not go to work and unfortunately I think I need to go back there today to let them know about my symptoms. Robert wood Johnson hospital is not the best choice when you have a test to get done. I have had previous bad experiences in the emergency room also and would not recommend this hospital to anyone. If you have a little bit of time and it is not a truly emergency, go to other hospitals that are a little farther but the service is...
