Travel to the historic Gold Rush town of Columbia to relive what school was like in 1860. Built using sun-dried bricks produced in Columbia, this historic two-story schoolhouse sits on a hill. This location was ideal because it wasn't near any town fires that happened in 1854 and 1857. The school opened on November 18th 1860 with over 300 students, two teachers and a principal. Each classroom has the old wooden desks with their inkwells, slate blackboards and other teaching tools. The two wood burning stoves were supplied by the boy students. Either you were roasting or freezing depending on where you were sitting. It is free to explore the Columbia historic schoolhouse. This would be a great second or third date to take a mini road trip together and visit the town of Columbia. IG:...
