Graduated from here in 2014 with a bachelors in history, English, cultural anthropology and underwater archaeology.
Graduated from Providence College to years later with a masters in history, then went on to get a PhD in history from Boston College.
Served in the US Army for eight years prior as a medic and journalist.
Many of my friends from high school went here. It was a different world back then, the students were cheerful and social and welcoming. My experience was not quite the same.
Many, though not all of the student body can be divided into three general groups: The stoners, the drinkers, The Greeks. The students come here not to actually learn and apply themselves but to get high and party and play the field, scowling at those of us who actually come here for a legit education.
I did not live on campus, but from what I understand the dorms are absolutely disgusting. They constantly reek of weed vomit and stale alcohol. Used condoms litter the vast majority of the campus.
I rented a beach house the whole time that I was there, three bedrooms just for myself.
I was a good quiet tenant, and eventually bought my first house off of the people that I rented off of while going here for four years.
A lot of the students here also like to protest and create disarray wherever they can. They park on peoples lawns, vandalized the streets, smash glass and break things, parties are out of control, they park illegally in handicap spaces, and are generally, although not entirely, rude, trashy, and very ill mannered.
My experience at Providence College was the exact polar opposite. Yes, you have some of the elements of college life such as drinking and partying, but it was done much more discreetly. At Providence College, I had a much more professional experience and interacted with a more refined and professional, motivated and hygienic phylum of college student.
It’s very disappointed that the staff in the student body can be so complacent so as to conduct themselves in such a trashy, gutter manner. The campus looks as rundown as a ghetto.
It’s a good value for your money, but if you can go somewhere else I highly recommend it because the atmosphere on campus is absolutely deplorable. I lived off campus, so I can’t say much about dorm life and dining facilities, but from what I have heard and what I have seen they are likely to be equally as repulsive as the students that they serve.
Dreadful, miserable place.
I would also avoid the English department at all costs. Many of them seem to be radical feminist to absolutely and openly despise men.
They have a 25% drop out rate for a freshman. Not too surprising considering the lack of mentoring and positive influence here.
Last but not least, they are currently being sued for discriminating against Caucasians....
Another red flag to further suggest that the melon formed population here has been led by toxic leadership into a profound state of...
Read moreAt first, I thought that I had never seen anything like this strange college town in the woods, and yet so close to a major interstate highway that it is a short drive from Connecticut and Providence.
After I went to mass at a local church on a Saturday afternoon, I drove down to Nagasserut (sp?) and passed through so much suburban sprawl - gas stations, Starbucks, hair salons all the usual crowd that populate the strip malls. I pressed on to the edge of the peninsula where there were crowdy, dirty beaches and tacky outdoor bars with dueling cover bands doing Bob Seger and Sublime, respectively.
I was struck by the loneliness and emptiness of America. God gave the Indians this beautiful land and all they did was fight. They made almost no attempt to systematically study their homeland, to plan for its defense and preservation. And then Europeans killed them all with smallpox and colonization. And they at least set up some Universities. Eventually, we inherited it from the Europeans. It was still beautiful, but what did we do with it? We built some more Universities, but a lot more strip malls and put tacky outdoor bars on the beaches.
Now people who want to save money and avoid disease send the person with the strongest immune system into the George's takeout window to buy chunks of fried octopi so they can eat out of the back of their van.
What is the point of all this? How can a people this far removed from God and nature endure? What can we do?
I am at a total loss. All I want to do now is drive home before the sun goes down so I don't risk an accident being lost on strange...
Read moreWent here for 1 year and transferred out. Would’ve dropped out sooner if my loans allowed it. In the middle of no where despite pushing students to not bring cars. Public transportation takes forever. Only way to make friends was through sororities or very specified programs. Nothing to do on campus except watch basketball. Dorm always smelled like weed. Couldn’t take food from the dining hall. Clubs were mediocre and many leaders and participants seemed disinterested. Shared a bathroom with 3 floors of girls because floors were coed but bathrooms were not and every other floor had a different gender bathroom. Very homogenous group of people. Very isolating. Weak history program. Only had 2 dining halls for 15,000 students. And one was closed on the weekends. Dining halls only open until 8:30, even on weekends. RIPTA stops running at 10pm. Commute home on holidays took twice as long via public transportation. Printing was expensive and so was laundry. Met like 2/300 people from my hall. Grounds always had dead grass and beer cans. Quad was always too busy to enjoy. Fine arts center looks like a prison. Many facilities need updating. Academics were too easy and left me feeling unfulfilled. Massive parking problem. Greek life dominates too much. Everyone vapes or juuls or drinks. No sense of community and little school spirit. They overstate concerts, there was 3 the whole year. Feel left out when people go home for holidays since they live so close but you can’t. Never in a million years would I recommend or go back to...
