Placed an online order for same day pick up. Drove 2 hours (4hr round trip) in Tahoe traffic to pick up the order just to find that they are closed at 3pm on a Tuesday despite store hours being 7:30am to 9pm. No way to reach the store, and AutoZone regional office is on hold forever.
Our plan to go back home depended on the chains I ordered, or we'd be grounded in Tahoe with no where to stay.
Next day, I walked for an hour to be at their store when they open, again to find that they are closed, again.
Both times, I saw many customers pulling into the parking lot, walking to the store, and returning with disappointment. I was lucky to find a chain in a nearby grocery store, but AutoZone's lack of communication definitely interrupted my plans and those of many more stranded people.
It is understandable that the store may have had to close in the aftermath of the storm, but a simple handwritten "closed" sign is poor communication. Why not play a message when the customers call? Why take orders and put people in danger by not fulfilling them? Other stores did way better than AutoZone, even if they just had to pick up the phone and tell the customers everything is out of stock.
P.S.: Before anyone says 'you should have carried chains': we had good chains (not cables), both of which snapped off in the mismanaged chaos of highway 50, when people gave each other bad advice and encouraged the cars to keep pushing! We got a second pair after that, which got pinched in the awful ice puddles of Lake Tahoe...
Read moreThe worst store service I've ever experienced. We spent $170 on chains...drove down the road a ways to the snow, put them on (instruction specific) , drove 5 ft and one of the chains snapped. Called the store and Matthew, the supposed store manager, refused to keep the store open the 5 minutes longer it would have taken us to reach his location (would've arrived at 8:02), where we would have spent another $170, so that we could get home tonight. We asked him where else we could buy chains and he said 'nowhere, it's sunday'. We asked if he could stay open a little past close and he refused, stating he would only be there until 8. When asked what his name was, he gave it forth and hung up on us. If he is the manager, he could do with some retraining. At the very least, a lesson in basic human kindness. Supremely disappointed in his management training.
Rerating, a few days after this rating went up, corporate reached out and refunded us for the chains. They were very empathetic and apologized for our...
Read moreI like this store! Today I bought fuel additive, with a dozen more to choose from. I've gotten good service from the staff, they are usually knowledgeable and helpful. I stopped there a few months ago because the check motor light came on. The gentleman plugged in his diagnostic tool and told me there was a problem with the catalytic converter or the sensors (2) that mesure the amount of oxygen going through the system. He then offered to look up the cost of the sensors as well as a new converter. I knew it wasn't the catalytic converter for it wouldn't run correctly. He then suggested I could use a fuel system additive that would turn off the check motor light, and if it turned off, its the sensors. I followed his recommendation and sure enough the light didn't come on again. All in all a good place to go for your car needs. They also lend tools to fix your car right there in the lot. Easy access right on Hwy 50, on the lake side...
