Bare Roots Coffee & Kava Lounge — Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe

I was given a bag of there coffee a year ago for christmas and loved it. So today i stopped in to buy a bag for myself and as a gift to take for thanksgiving. This was my first time visiting.

I also ordered 2 drinks to go a Raspberry Mocha and a Lavender Vanilla coconutmilk latte. They had some pastries left (i came after 2pm) that looked really yummy. Ill be honest, i was disappointed with both drinks.

The raspberry mocha wasnt very flavorful (which is sad bc they use monin which is an amazing syrup brand). I had there coffee drinks before from another shop (an americano) and that drink was the best tasting coffee i ever had so i had extremely high hopes for this drink because every experience i with there coffee was amazing.

I didnt drink the latte, but when i got home my friend was very disappointed to see that the drink wasnt full. A good few inches were missing, which was upsetting for a 6.75$ beverage to be shorted so much.

I was.pretty disppointed i spent over $50, and left a $9tip for beverages that just didnt hit the mark. Perhaps it was an off day, or i came too late in the afternoon. If i get the chance to stop by again, I will try the beverages again and change...

I am a local here in Tahoe. I've always loved your coffee and took my visiting Mom into your store yesterday at around 10:45am. I'd never go back with how we were treated by your barista.

We bought beans, coffee and tipped the girl working.

My Mom's coffee (Cortada) was too strong so she came back in to ask for ice and some more cream. I was shocked to see the barista charging my Mom additional money. My Mom tipped her again..

I then figured out she charged my Mom $2 for a cup of ice with cream...after we spent $30 already. When I asked the Barista about this, she was extremely rude and giving off an attitude like I was being petty for asking about $2. She was totally ungrateful for both sets of tips as well.

I asked for a water before all of this as well. She gave no ice, no lid...just didn't care really at all.

There were no seat covers in the bathroom.

The Internet promised us the best coffee in Lake Tahoe, and Bare Roots delivered. We had spent all morning trying to find anything better than the weak instant coffee in our AirBnb before stumbling across them on Google.

-Covid safe: Customers + staff are required to wear masks. Everything felt very safe and clean, and there was hand sanitizer readily available.

-Incredibly friendly service: The husband-wife duo who served us were so kind, chatting with us & even sharing some great leaf-peeping spots around the lake.

-Delicious coffee: There was something there for everyone. Apparently they roast the beans there on site (so cool). A range of milk alternatives are available for anyone who’s dairy-free.
