In Nov 2017 my brother visited me from Asia, we drove hours to Lake Tahoe, came across this Grocery Outlet, went in to get drinks. I was looking for a skirt for my Christmas tree, picked up 2, a reindeer Christmas car deco, a virtual reality headset, and a LED light, $45. When I was at the cashier, I SPECIFICALLY asked the cashier, now still listed on my receipt as âRickâ, what is their return policy? Rick went even further as checking with a higher authority, and both replied that there is NO DATE LIMITATION, âjust keep the receiptâ was the only requirement. I went home to realize I didnât need those skirts (bought another), the reindeer nose was broken, the virtual reality gave me headache, went to the nearest Grocery Outlet near my home to return them, that was 2 weeks from the purchase date, but was rejected because I can only return to the outlet that I bought them from! Oh ok so why wasnât Rick and supervisor clear with me? So I kept all the items new still in their packaging waiting for a chance to be back in Lake Tahoe.
This chance didnât come until 2 days ago (13 April 2019) going Truckee. The trouble of keeping them for so long and must remember to bring with us, I wish I didnât buy them! Before spending that extra half hour driving from Truckee to South Lake Tahoe instead of going straight home, my husband specifically had me to call the outlet to ensure that we definitely can return the items. I explained my situation to Carolyn that the receipt was 1-1/2 years ago but I was promised I can return any time and had tried but rejected at the outlet near my home. She graciously said yes ok. When we arrived, a Charlene saw that I had Christmas stuffs to return and REJECTED my request saying they were seasonal items had only 30 days return period. She proceeded to print out a sample receipt saying it is stated at the bottom of receipts which I showed her mine has none and she said I had tore off that portion! (First insult). I explained what Rick has promised and that I had called from Truckee spoke to Carolyn who said ok. Rick certainly saw those were Christmas items but assured me I could return ANY TIME! I then pull out the VR headset and LED light, those werenât Christmas items?! Same thing, Charleneâs excuse is that the date was 1-1/2 year back. Charlene then embarrass Carolyn asking her if she agreed on a 1-1/2 year ago return, Carolyn said she didnât hear that part! I definitely did as I had said I had lived in the Bay Area too far to drive that 4-5 hours just to make the return. So I explain all over again to Charlene, NOTHING I say goes into her brain. Without my permission Charlene took all my stuffs and placed them at another cashier counter asking me to get out of her customersâ way (Second insult). So I asked to speak to the manager. Charlene is the highest authority there at the time! Carolyn is also a supervisor but a level down Charlene. Charlene then said she called the manager who said I have to go back to the store on Monday to speak to the owner Mike myself! Really? Which part of âI am a tourist I donât live in this townâ do you not understand? So I asked if I can speak with Mike on the phone, to which Charlene said, âtoday is Mikeâs off day, I am not going to let you call him on his off day just to HARASS him about your returnâ!!!!! I got really upset! Rick failed me, Carolyn failed me, now I am called a harasser?!! I told Charlene right there, âI donât want to speak to you, it is USELESS to talk to you, because you are just a POWERLESS person who cannot execute the promises that your staff member made to your customers! If your staff member hadnât made that promise I would not have bought anything!â Carolyn said Mike comes in about 9am on Monday, funny Iâve called three times it has been Charlene picking up saying Mikeâs not there, I can recognize her husky voice.

Read moreIt wasn't too bad.... Although they were a little busy and the poor cashier had to call for another cashier 3 different times before 2 other cashiers came and opened two registers... I've worked in retail before for many years and if you ask me it wasn't professional of the other two cashiers to 1. not respond right away and 2. When they finally showed up instead of walking up to the people who were actually next in line ( which was my man and I) one of the back up cashiers leaned over her conveyor belt to let the guy behind us know she was opening up her register while the other back up cashier didn't say anything... She just stood behind the counter... But other than that it...
