My husband and I moved to The Gateway in 2015, which meant downsizing from the Maplewood home we had lived in for 46 years. Happily, the apartment's room are spacious with excellent wall space that allowed us to keep a decent amount of our art. The closet space is excellent and each apartment comes with a storage unit. The appliances work well. The kitchen is attractive. I get to enjoy my balcony with its view of the town's tennis courts and SOMS. For those who might be concerned about outdoor noise, especially the train, I can assure you it's not an issue. The apartments are so well built that I don't hear noise from adjacent dwellers. The gym is well equipped, the amenities lounge serves as the meeting place for The Gateway's book club, and it is possible to relax up on the roof. The building is cleaned daily and garbage is removed promptly.
We all know the expression "location, location, location". In addition to the train, supermarket, and restaurants mentioned by other reviewers, there is SOPAC right across the street, the post office, medical offices, and the library a couple of blocks away, banks, a UPS store, and even a Verizon store which came in very handy when I had a recent phone emergency. I do have a car, but it would be possible to live here without one.
What really seals the deal for me, especially now that I am on my own, is the management of the building. SHAMCO does a good job. When there are problems they get taken care of. I know that Mike Tierney's primary responsibility is to keep the apartments rented; but he is so much more. He handles all the little issues that arise, keeps the package room in order, is child and pet friendly, and just keeps the building in a smooth hum.
I hope to live at The Gateway for many...
Read moreThe Gateway has been my home for 5 years now. I love this place because whatever I need is within walking distance from the building. It could not have been in a better location since it is adjacent to the NJ Transit train station, ideal for commuting to NYC and Hoboken. There are food stores, restaurants, banks, pharmacy/drug stores close by. The Post Office and Library are just a block away. There is even a beautiful park next door.
Individual apartment units at the Gateway are also well designed and spacious. The facilities are very clean and well maintained.
Mike Tierney, the Property Manager, is a great asset to the Gateway. He is very friendly and helpful to the tenants. He is quick to respond and readily makes himself available to check any problems that we may encounter in our unit and the building as a whole. He is just the perfect fit for his role as Property Manager. We’ve had a few others in the past and he has...
Read moreI am one of the first people to move into The Gateway. I've lived here since October 2014. The location, amenities and excellent maintenance of the building keep me here. In December 2018 I moved from a one-bedroom apartment into a two-bedroom apartment, that's how much I like the building. My son just moved into the building a couple of weeks ago based on my recommendation. Mike Tierney and Henry have been here for years. Both make sure that all our needs are met here and if there is anything that needs to be serviced, Mike and/or Henry attend to it immediately. They are both very friendly and Mike always tells me that he is available 24/7 for the tenants at The Gateway. That is very reassuring. Two more comments: I have the largest model, almost 1400 square feet, and I love the spaciousness. My son has an apartment with access to the balcony from both the living room and bedroom. What a...
