if I could give 0 stars I would. The owner at Southington modern formals has been nothing but unprofessional. I have had two appointments with him scheduled for my fiancé BOTH in which he forgot about. The first appointment we arrived he paid us no mind, he forgot we even had the appt and made us wait more than a half hour before having us RESCHEDULE TO ANOTHER DATE. Now get to the second appointment. Which the owner scheduled during closed hours. He specifically said he would come down to open the shop for us, and give us a one on one experience as he had ALREADY messed up the first time by forgetting our appointment and making us wait inside his store for over a half an hour while he helped countless other customers who did not have appointments. 10 minutes has gone by and still no sign of the owner showing up to the store, so we give him a call and ask if he has forgotten about us again with a very long pause stutters and says uhh uhh i can be there in 10 minutes.. We declined at that point. Multiple days off work, for multiple people, so much money lost in just going back and forth and taking time off for his unprofessional work ethic. His lack of care, and unprofessional attitude is something I will never want to worth with NOR reccomend to a single soul. Not a dollar of my money will EVER go that business, and I hope to make some people aware of how this man likes to do business. I should have known when my coworkers son got a ripped suit for his prom and the owner thought it was funny and didnt call the kids mother back for 6 weeks.. I can only imagine how MANY others have had a terrible experience like this. GO LITERALLY...

Modern does great work on tailoring suits. I even bought one after the first wedding I was apart of. The second time I interacted with them left a bad taste in my mouth.

John left me a voicemail threatening to charge the groom if I didn’t return my suit in three hours before they close. I could not return the suit in a timely fashion while dealing with a death in the family and a crazy work schedule. Not too mention Modern’s hours are not very reasonable for the working class. Charging the groom for my lateness doesn’t seem Kosher neither. The voicemail I received was of a grown man whining instead of being professional. I understand that not getting a suit back in a timely fashion could be frustrating but the day after the wedding is ridiculous. Have these people attended a wedding? A fun wedding none the less.

When I walked in to return my suit the lady at the counter took a call and gave me the “one minute” finger. Professionalism would have been taking care of the living breathing patron in front of you than a call. The first words she spoke was, “where is the bow tie?”

After over $500 spent there I felt so disrespected and disgusted. I was planning on buying the suit but not after that experience. Everyone has their bad days but come on now people. You’re in the business of serving/helping people who are already undergoing stress and logistics. Go the extra mile to be kind and...

I highly recommend Modern Formals! Walking into a formalwear store can be intimidating, but from the moment I stepped in, John made the entire process quick, easy, and stress-free. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and knew exactly what would fit me best, what would look sharp, and how to style it so I had a unique and sophisticated look.

What really impressed me was John’s attention to every single detail. He didn’t just hand me a tuxedo—he made sure it complemented my wife’s gown perfectly for the Gala. From selecting the right fabric to ensuring the cufflinks, buttons, and accessories all worked together, he thought of everything. He even helped me get comfortable in suspenders, making sure everything fit perfectly and felt great to wear.

I’ve been to other places where they take forever, ask a million questions, and leave you feeling overwhelmed. Not here. John is personable, kind, and a true professional—he just gets it. The whole process was smooth, efficient, and actually enjoyable. I looked and felt incredible at the Gala, and I’m so thrilled with the experience that I already plan to go back to buy my suits here.
