I wanted to write an honest review about the Tokyo Japanese Restaurant. I was looking for a sushi place near me that was all you can eat for lunch. After looking around this was the closest place to my work and I decided to read some other reviews. There were a lot of good ones and some colorful bad ones.
I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 PM. The outside did look like a plain old building and didn't draw your eye to it. Plain white building with nothing much to look at on the outside. Inside was another story, it had great decor all around.
I was seated at the bar and handed two menus, a lunch and a dinner menu to check off items I would like to order. The menus weren't very explanatory and I was too shy to ask about it but I knew I wanted their All-You-Can-Eat lunch sushi so I didn't bother asking about it.
The staff did have limited English vocabulary as some other reviews have said but were very polite and prompt with their service.
As soon as I sat down and started checking off items I would like to order, one of the chefs handed me a bowl of what I think he said was their 'seafood salad.' I heard this mentioned in another comment. It was really good. It was a blend of different chopped up raw fish and vegetables in some sort of creamy soy sauce soup.
The sushi tasted and looked of good quality but I didn't care for the ingredient amounts. For example I ordered a Philadelphia roll which I almost always get anywhere else and there was more cream cheese than I would normally care for.
Their individual sushi pieces were also really good but their preparation of it wasn't of my preference as well. I prefer smaller slices of fish for each individual sushi piece so that there is about as much fish as rice. The pieces made had large slices of fish over the rice where it is covering all the rice and ending up being so large they touch the plate.
With that being said, their smoked salmon sushi is A-MAZ-ING. I had never had smoked salmon sushi before and this was without a doubt the highlight, I just wish I wasn't as full or I would have ordered more.
As I was about half way through my first order, the chefs had left the bar. One of them went in the back and another one came into the restaurant side and started eating at another table. As I finished my order they cleared my dishes, offered another order slip, and the chef returned from his meal and washed up and put gloves on to continue assisting me with my orders.
As I was eating my second order he returned to his seat in the restaurant. I'm fairly easy going and this didn't turn me off the place but I could see how it would bother some people.
All together it was about $20.15 for the meal. I had 1 Philidelphia Roll, 1 Tempura Shrimp roll, 2 Spicy Tuna nigiri, 2 yellowtail nigiri, 1 smoked salmon nigiri, 1 spicy tuna nigiri.
I felt like 4 stars was fair. The sushi was good but not to my PERSONAL preference. The wait staff was very friendly. And I could see how the chefs going into the dining room to eat between preparing your food would bother some...
Read moreLast review: ive realized this place is run by people who care, but waitresses who could care less! We areived for our 3rd AND FINAL visit on 2/22/13, and were ignored for 10 minutes before even being greeted. The waitress was rude and sat us with other patrons which was ok. We ordered our drinks and asked for sushi menu and she was so rude and nasty. We ordered our sushi and entrees, and waited 30 minutes for our drinks. She brought our salad and soup and still no silverware or plates OR DRINKS. i waited 5 more minutes and went to talk to manager. She apologized and quickly brought us what we needed, and evem brought my sushi that was waiting on the counter for 15 minutes. The meal was fine, but my sister amd daughter didnt get any rice because the chef didnt make enough! I said "they need rice we payed for rice" and he yelled across the restauraunt which was quite embarrassing, but did cook more for everyone. Overall i was again disappointed and will NOT BE going back!!! AThe only reason i went back today was because noble had a 1 hour wait. But now i see there is a reason noble is so busy and this place is dead! You have been warned!!! The bottom half of the review was 2 weeks ago. This review is from yesterday 2/7/13 was highly disappointed. Grill was not working so all food was undercooked was served raw shrimp and asked cook to recook, which he did. Wanted medium steak, he served really really rare steak. Watched as he painfully tried to cook it more on a grill that wasnt working. Sick today from raw shrimp. Did complain but no discount given so this time NO TIP! Last time i gave a 30% TIP 1/21/2013 The best hibachi ive ever had. Been to hundreds of places in ladt 10 years and this beats them all. I thought noble was good til i came here. If u like dippimg in mayo sauce...
Read moreThis is the first review I’ve written. My experience tonight at Tokyo Restaurant was so bad; I registered to this site, just to post this review. This was my 20th and LAST visit to this sushi house. My brother and I ordered all you can eat sushi. One of the plates was broken and had a chunk the size of a nickel missing from the side. We waited over 40 minutes for a dessert that consisted of 1 plate of fried bananas and 2 scoops of ice cream. The waitresses ignored us. We watched other customers receive their desserts, fortune cookies, and hot towels. After 40 minutes, we got up and paid. We were charged $42.50 (39.96 plus 2.54 tax). As we paid, the waitress didn’t even make eye contact. As I handed her my cash, both herself and the other waitress were staring at our table looking for their tip. I handed her $43 and I was given back fifty cents change. We didn’t leave a tip, as this service didn’t warrant it. As we were walking out, the senior waitress chased us out the door and demanded we pay more “tax” She said an additional tax was needed because we didn’t tip. I mean if you give poor service, you don’t get a tip. If you’re so desperate for tips that you have to chase customers and give them a shakedown, that’s pathetic and shameful! TLDR – Save yourself from rude waitresses who will shakedown customers for tips and head down the street to Gobi...
