First time customer. Sold a white gold ring and some sterling silver necklaces here, after they DM'd me in response to a post in a local fb group looking for a local gold buyer. Experience was somewhat frustrating. Unlike most gold buyers, you do not get cash or check the day you sell your items.
Instead, you have to give them the items, then they send it to the refinery to test it, and then are supposed to follow up with you once your payment check is ready. At which point you need to come back to the store to pick up your payment.
In my case, I brought in my items on a Tuesday. I provided my driver's license, which was used to fill out a dry cleaner/coat check style ticket, which i was asked to sign. I was then told I couldn't get my payment check that day, and that they would call me when the check was ready, probably by Friday. I was handed a small ticket stub with a # on it (no name, no signature, no amount, no itemization), and before leaving, confirmed that they would call me on Friday to come get my check. I even specifically asked if I would need to call or follow up on Friday, and they said no, they would reach out on Friday when the check was ready.
Friday came and went with no call. I even reached out in the initial fb DM in the afternoon, and received no reply for about 3 hrs. At this point, I grew concerned that I had just been scammed or something, so i made another post in the same fb group asking if anyone had a similar experience, and if this was normal. At that point, i finally got a reply to my DM, and took down the post as a courtesy.
I was told told things were busy that day, and that Saturday wouldn't be an option because they were going to be busy with appts...and that my check was ready but I couldn't pick it up until Tuesday. (They are closed sun/mon)
So, I waited. Tuesday came, went to pickup my check... name was spelled wrong. Had to wait while they went and had the bank reissue with the correct spelling (i debated just trying to deposit it, but didn't want to risk the bank rejecting the deposit since it did not match the name on the account or my ID).
After a short wait in my car while they went back to bank to reissue the check, i finally got it (correctly spelled) and was on my way.
If you are looking for a local jeweler, or don't mind leaving your items and/or waiting a few days for payment, this place is probably just fine.
However, if you are looking to sell precious metals for cash, and are uncomfortable leaving your items there while waiting multiple days for payment, I would recommend one of the other local buyers, that has the ability to test the metal on site, and gives you an itemized receipt for your items, like Ryan at Good Bottle Auctions instead.
UPDATE: Rating adjusted from 3 to 2 based on owner's response. Telling me things have been "done this way" for 10 years is moot. I had never done business here before, so I wouldn't know things were done differently than every other gold buyer I have encountered. Hence why I was confused and concerned when I did not receive the promised follow up.
Saying that I could've chosen not to sell my items is moot - the issue did not arise until 2 days after I had done so. When I left on Tuesday with my "ticket" stub, I expected a prompt follow up call as promised, and be able to return on Friday. At this point, the transaction was already in process.
At no point on Tuesday was I informed testing the metals required them to be sent to a refinery. Saying "i have to test this" and then checking items in front of me with magnets, weighing them, etc, seemed to be the "testing" process
Issues: I was told to take down a post AND write something positive in it's place, because I wasn't the first person to have and voice a similar experience with delayed follow up and payout The check was wrong even after ID was provided = wasted time on a day I didn't have it Blaming the customer for unfamiliarity with the process - if owner was standing in front of the sign, it's not...
Read moreI am new to the area. I was looking for a jewelry store to do a small project for me. I had gotten a small silver heart holding a tiny bit of my beloved dog Buddy's ashes. The heart was very small and I was afraid I would lose it on a thin chain, and how could I find a jeweler that would make a small job to make it into an earring? Well I was blessed to find B&V Jewelers in Southington. I was worried that the small job could not be done. Well I walk in and there is the owner Andy. I explained what I wanted. He was warm and welcoming and I told him what I wanted. I thought it would be strange to ask for an small earring that would have my dog's ashes in it. Andy said it would be no problem and he totally understood and treated what I wanted with the utmost respect and understanding. With in a few days I got my earring and it came out BEAUTIFUL! Andy is the BEST, thank you so much. I would suggest anyone that needs repair or buying this...
Read moreAndy is an extremely friendly, knowledgable, and understanding individual. I got multiple recommendations to come here for a promise ring, and I was far from disappointed. I had a pretty low budget (they specialize in high-quality engagement rings), but Andy walked me through what I could afford and worked with me to get the perfect piece of jewelry. I had no idea what I wanted for my girlfriend, but got exactly what I needed by the time I walked out! I never once felt pressured to spend more money than I could, and with Andy's thorough knowledge, he was able find me a beautiful band and stone. I cannot recommend B&V enough. Will be sending all of my family and friends here in the future. I promise if you come see Andy you will have the most pleasant buying experience out of the entire jewelry industry! Come here and you will not only have a lifelong jeweler, but also a...
