So they have a small selection of books in no general order. The exhange policy makes absolutely no sense. We brought I'm 40ish tom clancy novels and some other similar books my grandpa had In his collection before he moved and didn't need them anymore. My parents dropped them off and they said they would go through and give us the value. They gave us 34 in credit. (Which is plenty if they had any sort of normal system) I was like sweet that is enough for a few books. I went in on my lunch break to see what we could get and how much credit they had given us. apparently they store the trade values written on an index card. This was my first concern as using a physical hand written card is the dumbest way to keep any sort of inventory I've ever seen. I mean if this was pre 1970 then I would understand but how hard is it to have a computer. It's worse than using an Excel sheet. I've heard of stores using old systems but paper and pencil is not even using a system.
But that isn't even the worst part. I start looking around to see if there are any book I would like. I spent about 15 minutes puzzling out the sections because it wasn't really listed anywhere, and the books are not sorted at all. I found 3 that I wanted after another 15 minutes. The main book was The dragon reborn from Robert Jordan ( a book from 1991 that is the third book in the series of 14 books) They had a sticker on it for 4 dollars. The other 2 books were also 4.00 and we're Harry Dresden books 1 and 2. These are more recent. I take them to the front and the lady at the desk tells me that the credit is not good for books with the white sticker. Any books with the sticker you have to pay for. I was annoyed because I just spent 30 minutes of my lunch break picking out these books, just to find out that the credit I gave is no good for them. I asked for clarification because there was no information in where the books that are not labeled so I could use the credit. The lady explained that any fantasy/sci-fi books are more popular so you can't use credit from non-fantasy/sci-fi books toward them.
Honestly I wouldn't have even brought the books in if I knew that was the case. I would have just donated them, as I only read scifi/fantasy. She said it was because they were more popular and they needed money for building rent, and scifi/ fantasy reads are collectors/hoarders. So not only are my books I traded in worth nothing to me, but because I like a genre it's clearly my fault that they are popular. I mean 12 dollars for the books isn't a bad price but the whole point of a trade/exchange is to trade books you don't want for ones you do. If the unpopular ones don't trade then give people less credit for them so it requires more. Someone will probably want them eventually. Or don't take them in and be upfront about it. I mean it's basic supply and demand, it's not hard. No wonder they struggle for rent. They have no idea how to run a business. I wouldn't be surprised if they only got the store because 50 years ago someone who was a book collector owned a store and died and they inherited the business, then just kept bleeding it dry because they had no idea how to run a bookstore.
I mean physical books stores are dying across the USA because of a lower demand but coming up ways to stay afloat by screwing your customers isn't helping.
So what it boils down to is if you trade in books here expect to be disappointed if you want any sort of book that is remotely popular unless your bringing in something similar and they write it down on their index card correctly because I'd be surprised if they knew how to type. The prices were good if you don't trade them in, but I'm not going to buy a book from a store that is as dishonest as to not be clear about their policies upfront. sidenote incase by some miracle the store actually sees this using a device with the internet: lookup Venmo, and libreoffice database. Libreoffice is a free office solution that will help you with keeping the inventory on a computer and keeping customer accounts....
Read moreGo here if you want a slim selection of good used books don’t go here if you want to exchange your books to get new ones for a reasonable deal LIKE THE NAME IMPLIES!!!! The ladies in the store are usually nice though I have to admit. You get a good amount of in store credit but guess what you can only use that store credit on books you would never want. It doesn’t apply at all to books that are popular from the last five years. They don’t have a good organizational system at all to help you figure out what books apply besides a sticker on the books and from what it seems they just put the sticker on all the things they know people want or would actually buy. I have 85 store credits and all I can buy is raunchy romance or horrible mysteries. What a waste. Don’t go here! They also lied to me and told me that books even with stickers would have the total subtracted from my credit and I’d still have to pay some (of course) but that it would be discounted because of my store credit.... it wasn’t. I would give this place a negative star review if I could. And I’ll...
Read moreI absolutely love this place. I love taking my kids there and having them pick out books for themselves, from the kid section. All books are a dollar! Except the ones in the glass bookcase, but completely understandable due to the fact most of them are pretty old prints and I find that totally awsm! I love this store! Favorite place to take the time to scroll. They don't have specific areas for specific books so literally make time to walk around and just look because you always end up finding something that sparks an interest lol love this store! I hope it stays around for a...
