This shopping center has the food bank I volunteer for. The Southside Christian Church food pantry with our director Mary JMathews and our bestest friend. She is 81 years old and can run circles around most people half her age.i have included her photo with her permission of course she has been there through the pandemic with a crew that won't say no to our local families in need. No income requirements except on certain programs (senior boxes for example). It is open every Saturday from 10am to 12pm if you show up you'll be served regardless of the time as long as it's reasonable. This is the most pleasant group of volunteers you could ever meet the serve you with a smile and put the boxes in your car. A family of two can expect by my guess at least a week's worth of food in four banana boxes filled and a sweet treat as you exit. The boxes consist of staple foods such as pastas, canned goods, milk and juice, meat (this a multiple meal assortment usually) due to the donations by our fine local stores it will very week to week as it comes available and all product are checked for quality and freshness. No garbage is ever given out. I know they average feeding 48000 families with about 750000 lbs of food a year. Now if you live in the 99002. 99003. , 99223 or 99224 zip code they will serve you a good box once a month with produce and bread every week. It's a God gifted bunch and don't care who what or where your from even some can by once if they live outside these zip codes and usually won't be turned away I have to see that happen but only a few times and that was inappropriate behavior or talk. Remember these are volunteers not paid emoyees they do this out love for you not pay. Hope to see some of you sometime I don't always work on Saturday I have had to cut way back since the heart attacks. But you have great additional stores in mall Rite-Aid, Providence regent care Trader Joe's (I love them) , Mother's Cupboard Pet Co, Urban Canine, McDonald's, KFC, Dept of Licensing Baskin Robbins, Cold stone Creamery, Hubbard's Diner, Jimmy John's Eastern Washington Coin ok ok you have visit to believe it but the most important place there is our first responders the Spokane Police Departments Lincoln Heights Precinct. Spokane's finest men and women in blue(A special Thank you Them for Saving my life for real) no finer bunch than those people in my opinion and last but not least a US Bank Branch. So you can do almost anything there except get gas and an oil change I know I'm up for mine I have over 3000 miles on me and the wife says I'm getting a little rusty. Oh back to Lincoln Heights there almost anything you need there and church services are available to all on Sundays check with the Southside Christian Church as times and available room due to pandemic seating and guidelines. Thank you and I have included a picture of our own Mary J. Mathews for you to thank for such tireless work and dedication if I'm not mistaken she at 15 years or more at this food pantry now that's impressive by it's self need I say more Thank You all our love Keith...
Read moreIt's kind of an out of the way place, and we stopped on a whim while we were in town running a few errands. It was lunchtime, and we seated ourselves. Kinda bummed the weather wasn't a bit nicer (it was raining) as we would have loved to have sat out on the patio. The venue was cozy with plenty of room to get around tables and chairs, and the bar was sectioned off from the main dining area. Even though it is a tavern, it didn't have the smell one becomes accustomed to when entering a tavern. That is to say, no off-putting smells were to be had. Our waiter was quick to our table as it wasn't too busy when we arrived. He was very happy to answer all our questions as it was our first time to their establishment. We had the gorgonzolla(sp?) bread and the pork chops with potato. Add stated service was pretty quick as it wasn't too busy, so the bread came out nice and warm, and the cheese all nice and melty. The potato was a golden potato that I can only describe as having been baked and then smooshed into a fry pan to get a little caramelization, flipped to repeat on the other side and plated. Beside the potato, the pork chop (bone in) was perfectly cooked, and a wonderful light mushroom sauce drizzled over top of it. We will definitely be going back if...
Read moreI have my favorite areas on the South Hill, in Spokane. Here is one of them... Park and walk or drive and park as you need to. Lots of area to do both! I prefer to start at either end and walk. I can get an ice creme from Cold Stone or Baskin Robbins. YUM! Window shop and buy what I need at any one of the shops. Something for a special occasion gift, Hallmark! The greatest customer service at Mother's Cupboard for vitamins & more. Trader Joe's quick dinner ideas, Rite Aid for the "cold you caught" and many basic needs. Petco... our South Hill one is so friendly and knowledgable! Of course Leah, the manager, would have it any other way. Tell her Deb says Hi! Joanne Fabrics. I humbly admit to getting lost in here. ALL things beautiful, fun, exciting to think about... need a gift for the kiddos? Start here with ART! Honestly, buying or selling a house couldn't be easier... John l Scott just opened doors here, too. Someday I'll write a review about "MY whole South hill neighborhood. It's a great...
