My brother and I visited Two Seven Public House for the first time on Sunday, May 5, 2024. We stopped in after running Bloomsday. I don’t want to be too hard on Two Seven Public House because I think a main reason why I won’t return is because it just isn’t a place that aligns with my tastes. With that said, I can offer a little insight into why it doesn’t mesh with my particular desires for a restaurant (and perhaps it will align with your own tastes and you will want to visit)…
It is dark inside and a little cramped. When we visited, the booths were taken so we sat in the bar. We sat around a tiny table with chairs with no backs. Draft beer will run you $7 per glass and a PBR can was $4. The menu was very limited with most dishes pushing $20. Not only are the prices a little high to begin with, they don’t serve French fries with the sandwiches. Instead, they have potato chips from the bag that they offer. Nothing was that appealing to me so we ordered the taquito appetizer that was $12. It was pretty good. The restaurant was full on this particular day so the service was slow but our server was pleasant in the interactions we had with him. Two Seven Public House just isn’t for me but judging by the Sunday crowd it seems to be for a...
Read moreSo, I feel like it's unfair to give them a three star, but it feels dishonest to give them a foir, if I'm being perfectly true to my thoughts about the experience. Now, let me be clear: nothing was wrong, no one was rude, everything was on time-- I was just left feeling fairly underwhelmed, overall. The trouble is, I can't quite put my finger on why that is. There was a general lackluster and disinterested feeling in the entire space. It wasn't just the staff, but the patrons, and the establishment, itself. I can't put it into words, but it just felt fairly mediocre. I thought it was just me at first, because I was sort of feeling unwell, but my husband felt the same way. I will say, it was absolutely the best potato salad I'd had in a restaurant in..... I honestly couldn't tell you how long! It tasted just like homemade from someones' mom at a cookout. It is absolutely delicious. My salad was fine, although the Caesar dressing could have been more Caesar-y. He said his burger was good, and the presentation is nice. Nice. It's just kind of felt like something was off or missing. But all in all, I have no...
Read moreThe Two Seven is like that awesome comfy sweatshirt that you'll wear until it falls apart. I've been dining here for awhile and while I'm never blown away, necessarily, I'm always satisfied.
The menu is great and varied but I normally only order either the French dip, fish tacos, or buffalo chicken sandwich from it (all are super tasty). Can't go wrong with either the potato salad or the corn pasta. Their fresh sheet is where the magic happens! They somehow manage to nail it every time with this ever-changing selection of two menu options. I've had everything from a foot-long chili dog to blackened chicken pasta from this menu, and as I mentioned, it's always delicious! The beer menu is ample and the cocktails are generous. One of my ruts on the south hill.
There's a small patio for outside dining and the whole place is "seat yourself", which for some reason is a refreshing change...
