A while back I left a review of the old mall wasn't very well... Let's say flattering. It's just kind of sad how this mall has fallen. When the anchor stores that use to be here where actually opened it was almost packed in here. But Sears went under than Macy's. The food court is empty. Play area is in need of well... Let's say in need of modernization. Not sure if pretzel maker is still open or not... No real reason to stop here anymore. Older folks seem to take advantage of the AC/heat when they want to get out and stretch there legs and admittedly I have as well. I would really really like to see another anchor store return. Hell the dollar tree being relocated here would be nice. There current local is a nightmare to navigate at least in the mall is a straight shot and you know where to go. Sure the mall parking lot needs attention. I'm saying that nicely. But from an outsiders perspective I think they should try to lease the old Sears auto building to a Midas or maybe Monronmuffer. Get some people back into the mall foot traffic I feel like would be the first step. The food court I'd like to see get an anchor store. Even if it would just be a ice cream place like a dip n' dots or a wing stop. The nearest mall I can think of are either Cleveland or Columbus... The mall still has hope just because of it's location. It's just upsetting seeing the mall in the shape it is. Not sure how or why JCPenney's has stuck around but if they or hot topic ever leave I see the mall sadly...
Read moreWe used Avita Health facilities for a Dr appt. The Gatekeeper was very pleasant, but she did not obey Service Dog rules and was immediately attempting to distract my Annie. Granted, Annie IS very cute- however, she is on my lap to monitor my health concerns. Then the lady Gatekeeper went to reach into my lap (very personal space) underneath Annie's back area to help me straighten Annie's blanket w/o asking permission. This startled and scared me. Annie growled, raised her ears, and backed into me tightly so the lady could not access such a personal space on ME and on Annie. I did my best to stay calm during the interaction but I was very uncomfortable b/c I have been assaulted in the past, in what should have been "safe" facilities, including being choked by a stranger from behind at a dentists office while standing at their desk. I know this lady did not mean any harm- but- there needs to be inservice trainings on Service Dogs, laws, and how people are NEVER supposed to interact with them UNLESS the OWNER says it is OK. On our way out, Gatekeeper again approached and acknowledged that she knew she should not have tried to talk to Annie or "help", but that she just could not resist b/c she thought Annie was so cute. I accepted her apology and then had Tim wheel us outside under the carport in the freezing cold and rain to wait for him to get the car so that she could not talk to us anymore. The rest of the visit was fine: Dr appt, not a long wait, staff was...
Read moreRichland Mall is a symbol of the dying breed...
Once a fully occupied, and always bustling shopping center, its becoming incredibly vacant, with few major stores left, and is mostly a ghost town no matter when you go.
It is litered with pop shops, vacant stores, lounge areas, arcade games that barley work, and one of the saddest food courts I have ever seen.
Anchored by a hospital (weird), I imagine it likely pays rent to the building and may be the only thing keeping its heart beating.
Since my last review just short of two years ago Macy's, GameStop, Shoe Sensation, and Victoria's secret has went out leaving JC Penny as the last remaining anchor store, and the mall almost entirely empty. Hot Topic, Bath and Body Works, and American Eagle are now carrying the place on its shoulders...
It's a sad state of affairs, two years ago, I called the inevitable decline and vanishing of this establishment and I'd bet in two more years I'll be editing the permanent closing of what once was a great place full of memories. It is sad, but the natural course of Malls as the world shifts towards...
