I have always had wonderful experiences with Payne. I’m a local who always raves and refers everyone there. So I came in for another one of my certified oil changes because I like to keep my services with Payne from my previous wonderful experiences, but this time has caused Payne to lose a customer. When I went to pick my car up this time, they decided to change a $5 cabin filter on my vehicle without calling and authorizing it with me first. Then when I arrived expected full payment from me in order for me to leave with my vehicle. The reason I’m not happy about this is because that is a service I would have NEVER gotten. I change my own air filters. That is a tedious and unnecessary service that I would have never authorized. Simple as this...I paid $30 in labor for something that is worth it for some individuals to not deal with the hassle but NOT worth it to me, someone raised in a family of mechanics. Also, you don’t do work on a vehicle that you’re not authorized to do by the owner. That is terrible business standards. I was honestly blown away but quite a few individuals have been notified of this practice and if they CHOOSE to keep their services with Payne they will be making sure to let them know at drop off, in writing, that they will not pay for anything other than what is authorized IN WRITING! My cabin air filter didn’t even need to be changed yet. So icing on the cake, I paid for a service that not only did I not authorize or ask for, BUT that also wasn’t even NEEDED yet. Super...
Read moreI went to Payne Chevrolet Springfield today only to be blatantly misled by salesman Michael Maynard. I was very clear when I arrived: I am not applying for anything, and I specifically stated to him do not pull my credit. I was only there to test drive and get a trade-in value.
Despite this, I was handed a paper to sign under the impression it was simply to acknowledge responsibility for the car during the test drive. In reality, it was a finance application. My credit was pulled without my consent, directly against my verbal instructions.
When I confronted the salesman, he brushed it off as a “misunderstanding” and showed no accountability or apology. The General Manager then put the burden on me to call the credit bureaus myself to clean up their mistake, a clear attempt to dodge responsibility.
This was not a misunderstanding. It was a deceptive sales practice. Pulling someone’s credit without permission is not only unethical, it is illegal under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Consumers deserve transparency and honesty, not trickery and paperwork pushed under false pretenses.
I would strongly advise anyone considering this dealership to protect themselves, ask to see exactly what they are signing, and be prepared for dishonest tactics. This experience has left me feeling deceived, pressured, and violated, not how buying a car...
Read moreWell where do I start. We purchased a new Chevrolet Equinox Premier about a year ago. Nick was our sales person and what a great job, thank you Nick for the entire procedure. Now, just very recently we had to have new tires put on our car (not due to Payne’s fault at all, this was a tire fabric problem) and the service dept was absolutely great. Mr. Rick Gentry and also Mr. Gary Alley went “The Extra Mile” for us and did everything they said they would do in a timely and friendly manner. Thanks Rick for being so nice and helpful throughout yesterday’s visit. While we waited for the work to be done, Nick showed me (I’m not real savvy on technology) how the GM Rewards works from A to Z. Thanks Nick. Folks my dad had a saying that I use to hear a lot way back a long long time ago on the farm, “always treat folks the same way you want to be treated yourself”. Over the course of my life that has been very good advice and all you mentioned folks at Payne Chevrolet are living up to that each and every visit and day. Thank you all very much. Look forward to seeing you in the future. Charles and Gayle...
