I had a very horrible time at the humane society of Missouri on the 26th of June we took our two cats Buffy and Isabelle and we arrived at 2:30 and our appointment time was at 3:30 due to covid I had to call the number outside and then wait in the car until our appointment time now it was about 92 degrees that day and Izzy was in very poor condition health wise so they said they could bring Isabelle in before her appointment time if she is an emergency for a extra fee of $105 and then they were gonna leave my other cat outside and the lady came back outside and said they could bring out a water bottle for her and I was like what this place is for the animals right then why the hell am I supposed to keep her in the hot car or in the hot sun outside and then she came back outside about 7 minutes later and took Buffy inside and then we received a phone call from the vets nurse about Isabelle and her condition and she said that she had 2 very large tumors and that they would start to affect her lungs she said that they could perform surgery but that it would be quite expensive but that Isabelle may never recover fully and then she rushed into the option of euthanasia and I started crying and she started asking quite quickly about options basically on how I wanted to kill my cat!!! And expected me to be able to be Calm through the situation and kept asking are you there ? And when we got back to the humane society the nurse at the front desk called us back and said the full price of everything and then rushed us into paying with card or check !!! And after we paid she said That only one of us would be able to be in the room with Isabelle Me and my Grandma both were the owners of Isabelle she was in our family for 12 years I don’t understand the reasoning of why only one person was allowed to say there last goodbyes to there beloved family member ?!!! The nurse told me she would be outside in a few minutes to come get me to say goodbye to Isabelle and I waited in front of the building by the entrance and was waiting approximately 2 hours while not getting any updates on my cat Isabelle and how she was doing or how long it would be until I was able to come in and see her meanwhile my Grandma has to wait outside in the heat in the hot car FYI she’s 70 years old and that’s not right!!! When I finally was brought in to say my final goodbyes to Isabelle I was continuously rushed through this process they didn’t have any camera set up in the room so that other family members of the beloved animal could have been seen before the animal passes over the rainbow bridge Isabelle kept looking around the room for My Grandma and it Just killed Me inside And then after Isabelle received the euthanasia shot the doctor told me she had passed over I told her I knew and wanted to spend a few more minutes with her and was able to give her a few more kisses before another nurse came in and set my other cat Buffy on the table where My other cat Isabelle was just put to sleep it was just sickening and then I was basically rushed out of the room by so nurse and she tried to take me out the side door so I wouldn’t upset other customers then the door wouldn’t open may I mind to tell you I was crying my eyes out everyone was looking at me all I was offered as support was a I’m sorry and a water also I was not given any billing paperwork for either of my animals treatment that they received on...
Read moreIt's taken me over a month to write THIS review😢 because I believe ALLLLL Vets, animal shelters, hospitals, and clinics should take sensitivity courses and address the "Para" issues because the Spirit World is real whether you believe in it or not. (Not the Humane Society, but with one of my desperate calls for help, I reached out to a local Vet hospital for "spiritual" abuse and said they didn't deal with THAT type of abuse😞) Meanwhile my baby boy is being tossed around and cut up😢
I do first want to thank God for having a place like the Humane Society, who were the ONLY organization that cared enough to IMMEDIATELY return my desperate call for HELP while I was going through some of the most difficult, unusual, and somewhat scary days of my life🙏🏼 You guys ROCK!
The young lady not only listened with her ears but she also listened with her non judgemental heart💞 and even shared one of her experiences to show her relatedness. I do know it might be hard for some to believe (heck I'm living it and get amazed 😲) however what I do KNOW for a fact is Jesus is real and we are living in a spiritual cruel world!! But God, I know Him as a Healer, Comforter, Provider, Friend, Daddy, and etc🙏🏼Animals and children are the MOST vulnerable and do NOT have any hidden agendas to their actions and/or reactions to what they might be hearing and/or seeing😳 Plus I have pics and videos that I wasn't trying to capture anything spiritual, I simply wanted to show the Vets what I was talking about regarding my baby's behaviors and changes (for the skeptics in the back🤔)
So thanks AGAIN to the Humane Society, your wonderful staff, and my Baby Boy's new family🙏🏼🤗🐾 May God bless your organization and I will continue to🙏🏼 and contribute to maybe help others find a safe alternative for their fur babies who are not necessarily physically abused but spiritually abused because they should have a BARK/say in the matter too 🐶🐾
Lastly, this might not mean anything to anyone else however God knows. The pic outlined in red was one of the many marks left by what was making my Baby Boy react the way he was.. I was in prayer a few days after my decision to surrender, I asked my Aide what did the bruise look like which was on the back of my arm and she saw the heart💙 I saw too which was a warm confirmation to me that he was ok because when I got him 8yrs ago I'd noticed he has a brown patch on his neck shaped like a heart💙🤗 Then on Vday I looked down at my ankle and my Aide noticed the same heart💙 and that particular bruise was there 2yrs ago but left the dark mark BUT it wasn't shaped like this ever before💙🤷🏼 Coincidence🤔🐾 TRUST God and...
Read moreMy wife and I recently adopted a rescue from the Humane Society at the Macklind Avenue location, so I hope this review is useful for those reading in late 2023. TLDR: animals here seem to be generally well cared for, adoption process was longer than expected, staff hit or miss (possibly due to stress or high volume when visited at busy times)
This humane society location has many types of animals and it appears that dogs and cats are the most adopted. They do receive many animals from rescue operations in Missouri so they have a wider selection than some other locations we had visited in St. Louis.
The viewing and adoption process was fairly straightforward but time consuming for viewing. They require you to fill out an application and list the names of dogs(or other animals) that you would like to see interact with. If any of those dogs are currently or expected to be adopted or viewed, you will have to wait (we did for 1.5 hours). Initially my wife and I were supposed to see a puppy however the gentleman manning the application station did not check their list appropriately thus a couple who arrived later than us adopted the puppy we had been interested in. The gentleman at the application desk acknowledged the error but did not try to remedy the situation since we still technically could have adopted the puppy at the time.
Fortunately, we met our current dog at the shelter and have been happy with her. I would suggest taking your new pet to the Mid America Veterinary Center located close by within 3 days which will offer discounted exam fees for these adopted animals from this humane society location. We got pet insurance that helped to allay some of our initial fears regarding costs of medical care.
Once you decide to adopt your pet, the staff will give you their medical information and discuss vaccinations and required medical followup. You will be able to select the name of your animal and pay the fee. Sometimes this shelter runs specials so please check the website.
Staff at the pet shop were helpful in selecting initial supplies however do note that the items are definitely pricier than what you would receive from Amazon/PetSmart. We weren't as budget constrained so we ended up buying some items to help out the shelter.
Overall, this shelter does great work helping out the animals and the community. We would still recommend the shelter to friends with the caveats I have mentioned above. I hope your animal adoption...
