If your looking for the best Italian family owned deli, this is the place. Have been going to this deli for 34 years. We even moved out of the area 21 years ago but still go back to this place every time we are in st Louis. Even if we have to go out of our way we do just because they have decent pricing, are family owned and operated and treat you like the most important person in the world. We don't even try to find another place to get any of our Italian foods from, we just get them from Urzi's no matter what else is out there. They have always treated us right and the food is great. They offer the best Italian green olive salad anywhere. Trust me we've been to lots of different states and have tried others, but nothing compares to Urzi's. I happened to be passing through here last week so I had to stop! I'm 60% Italian and my Dad passed down some of his recipes to me, one of which is his homemade spaghetti sauce. I found a few ingredients here plus a lot of other things I can use or wanted to try. I have to say that their frozen cheese stuffed ravioli paired perfectly with my homemade spaghetti sauce and it was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be coming back for more and I will probably fill my freezer with them! I love the extensive collection of spices here. I had never heard of white pepper before, I know about black pepper but had never considered white pepper so now I have to Google and see what to use that for! This is a part of local grocers that is far too rare nowadays. If there's something you can't find I've have no idea what you could be looking for. This is old school American Italian. Bulk spices are great! The sandwiches are great. Nice selection of wines and liquor and beer! I always buy my olives and my Italian cheeses here. I'm in my seventies and I've been coming here for at least 65 years I think if I remember right I remember dad bringing me up here stock up for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It smells right.
