My fiancee and I visited back in April and I've meant to write a review ever since. I'll start with the experience. I loved the ambience of the place as soon as I walked in, it was unlike anything I had experienced living in Tennessee and Kentucky. I unfortunately didn't get the name of the gentleman we spoke with, he may have been the owner. It turned out he had once visited Pineville, KY, which is near where we live, when he was in college. On top of the friendly conversation, he was incredibly helpful in describing the wide variety of products available to someone who wanted to buy practically everything but only had limited cooler space for the drive back to Kentucky.
So what did I purchase? First was a bottle of Manhattan Special, which I had just heard Steve Schirripa talk about on an episode of the Talking Sopranos podcast. I loved it and wish it was available locally. I tried a jarred puttanesca because I had wanted to try it but was reluctant to buy the ingredients and spend the time making it not knowing if I would like it. I liked it, and definitely have plans to try making my own now. The pepper shooters were fantastic, and have also inspired me to make my own. You can't find things like that around here. The baba au rhum was as strong as the man said and something I wish I could have at every holiday and birthday party. I bought two varieties of sausage, tomato basil and a lamb sausage. Again, you can't find things like that around here. Both were tremendous. We tried the homemade alfredo, which my fiancee especially loved but I did as well. The homemade tortellini was paired with the homemade Sunday gravy, and I randomly find myself thinking about it months later. We capped it off with some dessert - caramel cake for her, which she thought was incredible, and cannoli for me, which I again find myself randomly thinking of several months later. I didn't even dip into the deli case because I couldn't decide what to get with the limited space we had, but there was so much I wanted to try. They even had baccala!
Bottom line, if I lived closer, I'd be fat and broke, but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEnzoās - really cool food items! Very cozy space. The proprietors are gracious, Raina gregarious (loved her, reminded me of home/NJ!!!), friendly with their patrons, passionate about their products. Fantastic variety in my opinion.
They make their own sausages! The desserts were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Hands down as good as you would find in a fancy restaurant.
We tried a little of everything - we will cook the meatballs, bragiole, meat sauce, eggplant parm, veal parm, chicken piccata Monday to close out our staycation weekend. Small tins FYI š
We tried the cheesecake, the ricotta pistachio, their limoncello cake and cannolis. Excellent! Really enjoyed them very much. We bought but didnāt try - a lemon and spumoni gelato ball (ice cream) the lemon is IN a lemon!!!
Oh do not even get me started on the homemade olive bread! Itās salty but they use my favorite olives - castelvetrano - so it was worth a taste! We didnāt try the sausage bread - I imagine that would taste milder but I LOVE olives so this was perfect for me!
Pasta salad was dairy and meat free, good though. Love not having had to dice up those veggies! ļæ¼I can always buy the meats and dice them up to put in the salad.
We really enjoyed the mortadella - made a sandwich with the Asian bread we bought next door at the Chinese market (separate review). Itās been decades since Iāve had any but this stuff is just fabulous. Great flavor, ten times better than bologna.
Lastly we tried an arancini - great texture and crispy outside, I wanted more cheese flavor though and meat would be better š but I think thatās a different type of rice ball. This was very good though!!
Believe the region is Sicily (apron/flag on the wall?).
If you have not had an opportunity to visit i Enzos - definitely worth the trip. Hands-down one of the best places weāve visited in a long time.
Will edit this post after we cook the other frozen tins. Oh they also do gluten free if you order in advance AND they do catering!
ļæ¼We will be back to get cold cuts next time and try the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the tiniest yet complete market I have ever been to. We were greeted warmly by a young lady when we first walked in. She gave us a tour of the market.
It was spotlessly clean. The smells were incredible, like spices and fresh bread. They had everything you could possibly want from an Italian market. Imported pasta and other goods from Italy, freshly made baked good, desserts, wines, olive oils, and a small butcher shop.
We purchased two desserts (little cannoli & slice of carrot cake), two frozen meals (spaghetti & meatballs and ziti ricotta), two arancini, and a loaf of semolina bread. Everything was authentic and delicious. The frozen meals were easily cooked, the sauce and the beefy meatballs were scrumptious. The arancini and cannoli were easily my favorite, authentic and tasty.
My husband's mother was born and raised in Italy, and he said the food tasted like home. He also said he could have dropped an entire paycheck at Enzo's buying food. In fact, I think he's looking for excuses to go back and buy more. (He's mentioned it almost daily.)
The only caveat (besides the long distance from us) is that there is SO much stuff in the store, the two aisles are very cramped - extremely difficult for someone in a wheelchair to navigate it.
If you are in the area, or are willing to drive a ways, I highly recommend coming here for some very authentic, delicious Italian food...
